Commercial Description:
The Stone 08.08.08 Vertical Epic Ale is a Strong Golden Belgian style ale highly hopped with American hops (Ahtanum, Amarillo and Simcoe). The beer pours pale golden with a thick and creamy white head of foam. The aroma is full of depth: nuances of pepper, clove, and banana from the Belgian yeast strain, and the resiny citrus notes from the American hops blend together nicely to provide a complex aromatic character. The taste is spicy, hoppy and fruity, with a very dry and a pleasant bitter end. The bitterness lingers nicely, and provides a refreshing finish that leads you to want to drink more and more of this beer!

Pours golden straw color with minimal white head that fades quick. Aroma is sweet, butterscotch with some floral and grassy hops notes. Flavor is same as the aroma with some honey, and citrus. Spicy phenolics give some pepper and some banana/clove in the mineral-like finish. Nice dryness level, nice kicked up hops level. This is a great brew.

Pours a clear dark golden color with filmy thin head. Aroma is clove, banana, yeast, pepper. Flavor was fruity with apple, spicy with pepper, and a hoppy bittering finish. A real nice take on a Belgian tripel. Very enjoyable.

Light gold, small head, lightly carbonated. Hoppy aroma, faint peppery notes. Has an almost piney smell. Soft on the palate, light carbonation. Definite flavor of pine. Peppery. Complex flavor.

beautiful golden color with a nice head. belgian fruity/banana yeast and lots of spicey, piney hops at the nose. taste follows suit with the addition of sweet light malt. one of my new favorite styles out there now... like a belgian IPA, or along teh lines of their Cali-Belgique. very drinkable!

drank fresh, with more to age. when fresh there is tons of alcohol coming through the nose and palate. a bit of a tart apple bite in there. lots of barly and yeast come through. definatly needs age, but a good drink reguardless

Gold in colour with a long lasting white head, light lacing. The aroma is spicy, lots of orange citrus, yeast and light alcohol. The flavour has quite a bit of lemon citrus, lots of spice, quite yeasty and fairly hot. Yeasty mouthfeel, medium body, high carbonation. Finishes hot, yeasty, spicy with a fair amount of citrus.

A belgian IPA that doesn’t have a hope to last 4 more years. Its okay but incredibly hot.

650ml bottle from Sahara Mart in Bloomington, Indiana.
Opened on November 21, 2008.
Vintage 2008.

theres a lot of stuff in here to like. spicy, sweet, golden beauty. floral fruit, tangy nose. there is a bit of stuff that detracts also. the spice is running toward minty, and i’m not much of a mint fan. alcohol is prevalent and cuts a bit much into the enjoyment. love the sweet nose however, with a touch of dough. a bit of aloe vera in the otherwise nice gold raisin sweet spice finish. if this doesn’t develop too much cardboard this could be a worthwhile one to sit on. that should help the hotness, and hopefully the mint will go away. 5 8 5 2 12 on a rerate, this has gotten much better. a cinnamon note is there instead of mint, alcohol isn’t hidden, but is more rounded out and has given a nice warming depth. bready, and really really drinkable right now. 5 8 7 4 16
