Overall Impression:
First one of the Vertical Epics I have tried, and it was really tasty. Stone is definately one of the best American brewhouses out there.

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Mar 8, 2009 hazy yellow gold, medium quickly reducing head, lacy. aroma of sweet malt, belgian yeast, spice. flacor is christmas spicy, like gingerbread, pine and grapefruit notes. medium body, dry finish. not bad, but then again, not good. sampled with cornfield, whiling away the time at his place. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 8, 2009 bottle... Pours a golden yellow hue with a a light, fast fading white head. Aromas of skunks, pot, saaz hops???, grass and a slight hint of citrus. Mouth feel is medium bodied with flavors of a mellow spice (cinnamon and a touch of clove), banana, and again, a mellow touch of citrus. The overall feeling is one dimensional. I couldn’t drink more than a bottle, but this would be a pleasant brew on a hot summer day as it is refreshing with a nice, dry finish. I don’t feel that this, as with many other vertical epic brews, will age any more than two years. savnac (453), Palmer, Alaska, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 7, 2009 22oz bottle. Yeasty, spicy, and hoppy aroma. Slightly cloudy deep yellow with a bit of orange, with a medium white head. The first thing I taste is the hops followed by a spicy yeasty after taste. Another great beer from Stone. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 3, 2009 Pours translucent gold with a thin white head. Smells strongly of a typical belgian strong ale. Flavor is very yeasty, mellifluous malt, cinnamon, hoppy, and very alcoholic. Maybe it’s because Golden Monkey is a regular part of my diet but this was not that impressive and much less complex. The hops were a nice addition but insufficient to overcome the spicey yeast esters, they seemed more like an afterthought in this beer. Cellaring another bottle for 2012. kassner (471), Wexford, Pennsylvania, USA

Like a light golden ale with some hop character. Cn’t say we saw much head but a really complex beer that can only get better with age
