Commercial Description:
The Stone 08.08.08 Vertical Epic Ale is a Strong Golden Belgian style ale highly hopped with American hops (Ahtanum, Amarillo and Simcoe). The beer pours pale golden with a thick and creamy white head of foam. The aroma is full of depth: nuances of pepper, clove, and banana from the Belgian yeast strain, and the resiny citrus notes from the American hops blend together nicely to provide a complex aromatic character. The taste is spicy, hoppy and fruity, with a very dry and a pleasant bitter end. The bitterness lingers nicely, and provides a refreshing finish that leads you to want to drink more and more of this beer!

Pale golden coloured beer with a thin white head. Lightly hazy appearance. Aroma is quite lovely. Lots of big citrusy/spicy hops. Lemongrass and tropical fruit over a big spicy yeastiness. Clove and a bit of light fruitiness as well. A bit of bubble gum and lemony citrus. It is quite aromatic and in many ways is similar to the Cali-Belgique or the Stone/Mikkeller/Alesmith collaboration. Spicy flavour with a lot of bright lemon peel and tropical fruit. Light lingering hoppiness.

22ox bottle. Pours a orange-tan color with a touch of haze. Not much head-wise. Sweet candi sugar and pepper aroma, with faint Hefe-yeast characteristics as well. Mellow carbonation. Sweet and sugary, but intricate in its balance. Some interesting hop bitterness complements the sweetness well. Sort of brutal and unsubtle for the ABV, but is growing on me with every sip.

Pretty decent stuff. Dry finish. Complex nose, with some floral notes. Peppery and full-bodied, I think I should pick up another one and let it age till 2012.

I did not have to wait until 2012 to try a Vertical Epic 08.08.08 thanks to Max’s on Broadway having it on draft. However, what I thought would be insanely over-the-top Belgian Strong Ale was just a strong Belgian Tripel. I’m hoping this beer changes from middle-of-the-road Belgium to a monster of the Midway by 2012. Only time will tell.

Golden-amber. Hop-light fruit aroma with light bubblegum as well and only a faint pale malt note. Slightly fruity on the palate, with a herbal note and good alcohol muscle. Some pale malt as well. Good - just dry enough to make it work.

Bottle, sample at Jupiter beerfest. Clearish gold color and a bright hoppy aroma. Mango and pawpaw esters change to earthiness at the end of the complex nose. Lovely brew weighted in favor of the hops yet retaining skillful balance. Loved it.

Bottle. Pours a hazy golden/amber with a frothy off-white head that left creamy lacing on the glass. Aroma was fruity, yeasty, hoppy with citrus, caramel and a hint of spices. Flavor was moderately sweet with caramel, fruit, yeast, black pepper, citrus and notes of spices with a medium body and a semi dry finish. Awesome brew

Bottle split with Barrios, MmmcKay, and Brent. Fairly fitting (if a bit cliched) for my 888th rating. Pours a nice translucent mustard yellow with good white head and very fine suspended particulate. The commercial description describes this to a tee! Nice blending hops with belgian triple. Impressed
