Commercial Description:
The Stone 08.08.08 Vertical Epic Ale is a Strong Golden Belgian style ale highly hopped with American hops (Ahtanum, Amarillo and Simcoe). The beer pours pale golden with a thick and creamy white head of foam. The aroma is full of depth: nuances of pepper, clove, and banana from the Belgian yeast strain, and the resiny citrus notes from the American hops blend together nicely to provide a complex aromatic character. The taste is spicy, hoppy and fruity, with a very dry and a pleasant bitter end. The bitterness lingers nicely, and provides a refreshing finish that leads you to want to drink more and more of this beer!

Brilliant clear golden, rocky and sudsy head with excellent lace. Spicy aromas of bananas and citrus of dry straw. A bit of candy sweetness and full malt behind the tangy hops. The back of the tongue tingles with the finish.

Bottle. Pours a smoggy sunshine color with a small foamy head. Flavor is initially a bit chewy and yeasty, but quickly forms a bouquet of fresh hops with lots of citrus zest. Finish is complex and lingering with hints of spice. Medium bodied, a bit chewy. Nicely done.

Pours a hazy (just slightly) lemon yellow with white head. Aroma an herbal citrus with banana and honey. Flavor is piney hops with banana undertones. Sounds like an odd combination but it’s good. The subtle sweetness lingers after each sip. Body is medium with equal carbonation.

Pours a clear light gold with a small diminishing white head. Lots of yeasty esters on the nose, some cherry, grass, banana, and orange as well. Taste is citrus, grass, slightly phenolic and tart. Medium bitterness fades quickly in the finish. It’s decent but I would take an American or English style any day to a Belgian styled IPA.

I am really beggining to likethe idea of belgian style ipas. The execution beer in particular however was good but seems like it is missing something and could have been a bit better . The pour wasw clear orange, with a sweet aroma and spicy hoppy scent. The flavor has that belgian fruity sweetness and funk, but also has the piney and somewhat grapefruit esc flavor of an ipa.

A slightly thin but well balanced Golden Strong, grainy background with notes of banana, pear, and bright citrus from the three varieties of American citrus-hops (Antheum, Amarillio and Summit I’m told). This is a quite quaffable beer, despite its high ABV at almost 9%. Spicy, hoppy and fruity, a sweet beer with a bitter finish.

Bomber, of course. Lightly hazed gold with a white head. The nose indicates this is well hopped, lemon and coriander, spicy. Somewhat sweet flavor, yeasty, light white pepper, lemon. Good.

Pours clear gold with white head. Sweet malt and yeast with some citrus on the nose. Flavor has a little lemon, with corn syrup sweetness to it then backed by yeasty finish.
