Aroma is spicy, with citrus, banana, light cracked pepper, and cloves that I hope stay in the background. Flavor brings things together nicely, and gladly the cloves maintain a background role and allow dried banana, spice, and citrusy hops to do their thing. Overall not too bad, and enjoyed more than the 07.07.07, my only other experience with the VE series. leeburg (149), Juneau, Alaska, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 15, 2008 First whiff upon cracking the bottle: HOPS!;!;!;!; So they didn’t lie. Transparent yellow with active, quickly and mostly diminishing white head. Pine resin, honey, grapefruit, and a roll of new carpet. Reminds me of my first real big hop beer, which I think was Bells Two Hearted. Initially sweet flavor and sticky mouthfeel followed by prickly pine needles and light banana. Lightly alcoholic and acidic finish with lasting bitter and salty metal. I really like Stone. Another thumbs up. BREWMUSKCLES (1084), New Jersey, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 14, 2008 Pours a clear golden orange color with a small white head that is gone quickly. A pineapple Christmas tree aroma. Ridiculously fruity as well. The flavor is very spicy Belgian flavor with tons of piny hop goodness. A little bit of that pineapple flavor, but also some apricot doused in the overall sweetness. It is relatively light, but very drinkable and delicious for the high ABV. Finishes dry and bitter. I love it. Nate (2558), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA

Smells like a cat peed on my freshly cut Fraser fir Christmas tree. Wow! Not the nose I’d expect from a BSA. Spicy and piney with a bit of sugar and cooked corn. Otherwise, a great aroma. Dark golden amber clear with a thin white head. Medium watery body with medium carbonation. Starts fruity with orange and grapefruit, apricot. Fresh. Good bitter finish. craftbeerdesign (760), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 13, 2008 Bottle. One of the better beers from that series. Right now it is very drinkable, with some hops bite but also some spiciness and pepperiness. This gives it a long lasting bitter finish. At the same time is quite refreshing and really hides the alcohol well. I am not sure how weel it will age though since there is a very prominent hops component. MAP (1089), Lakewood, Ohio, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 13, 2008 So where do you draw the line between beer styles. This is hoppy enough I could have pegged it as an IPA, but with a little extra sweetness and spice. Well, that is stone brewery for you. Everything has to have hops, hops hops, and a bit extra hops for good measure. There is some Belgian characteristics here, a small spice fruitiness. Mouth feel is clean and crisp, but I prefer a more robust beer.
