Commercial Description:
The Stone 08.08.08 Vertical Epic Ale is a Strong Golden Belgian style ale highly hopped with American hops (Ahtanum, Amarillo and Simcoe). The beer pours pale golden with a thick and creamy white head of foam. The aroma is full of depth: nuances of pepper, clove, and banana from the Belgian yeast strain, and the resiny citrus notes from the American hops blend together nicely to provide a complex aromatic character. The taste is spicy, hoppy and fruity, with a very dry and a pleasant bitter end. The bitterness lingers nicely, and provides a refreshing finish that leads you to want to drink more and more of this beer!

22oz. bottle. Spicy, fruity aroma, lightly sweet and sugary with grassy, peppery, woody, herbal tones and crackery malts. Clear deep golden color with an uneven, lasting head and fine lace. Flavor is spicy, bitter and mostly dry, plenty of yeast spice throughout, along with faint touches of honeyish malt sweetness, citrus, pine and peppery alcohol. Effervescent and lightly acidic on the palate, body is full. After a year in the cellar, this is still quite hoppy and bold, very big and flavorful, which is fairly impressive.

22oz. Pours a very clear light golden with a small white froth. Fruity Belgian yeast aroma, nice candi sugar sweetness, lots of bright citrus, oranges, a hint spicy. Flavor is orange peel, lots of citrus hops, oranges, quite bitter actually, very clean flavors, nice subtle maltiness, long bitter finish, tons of hops. Medium bodied, a bit sticky, crisp carbonation. I like it.

Just found this one at a local beer shop. Probably been at a distro the last year. It aged very well. Complex pleasant nose. Smooth rich taste. A great Belgian. Very drinkable.

Bottle from Crown#6, in vertical with 07, and 09, shared with the Bros. Pours crystal clear pale golden with elegant rising bubbles and minimal white head. Nose is dry citrus belgian yeast. Flavor is strong belgian yeast with some orange and lemon. Hops round out the background of this crisp refreshing brew. Not bad.

Poured a pale orange with a thin white head. Aroma is very nice, with a lot of fruitiness along with grassy and earthy hop. Apple and pearlike aromas were most noticable to me. Flavor is spicy yeast, a bit of the aforementioned fruitiness, and a lot of alcohol. The alcohol seemed too harsh for the flavors to me. It seemed to drown out a lot of the better things I was expecting from the aroma. I didn’t care for this one nearly as much as I did for 09.09.09.

Pours a clear golden orange color with a thick two finger foam head that quickly fades into a lasting ring. Sporadic spots of lacing. Sweet estery golden fruit aroma with hints of golden apple, grape, pear and banana. Slight alcohol presence with some peppery zesty spice and earthy hops. Spicy, yeasty medium body with a lot of sweet estery fruit notes, alcohol and citrus earthy hops. Sweet golden fruit notes, especially apple and pear with a decent amount of alcohol warmth and a nice dry hoppy finish.

Pours into the glass gold with an enormous white head. Aroma has little hop aroma and a bit of a vinegar like scent. I think this is possibly an infected bottle.

(Bottled) Poured golde and hazy with medium sized white head. Honey and spices in the aroma. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Tasted of spices, fruitiness, American hops and bitterness. Finished spicy and hoppy.
