Commercial Description:
This is quite a complex and layered beer. Bold and smooth chocolate malt flavors combine with a Belgian yeast lending tropical fruit/banana flavors and hints of spiciness, all complemented by citrus notes from an addition of tangerine peel. Rich vanilla beans add a nice counter to the chocolate malt - actually enhancing the chocolatiness. The finish is smooth, with additional traces of vanilla and toasted characters from French Oak. The goal for this edition of the Stone Vertical Epic Ale series is to be reminiscent of artisanal chocolates accentuated with orange.

Bottle. Pours black with a large, creamy dark brown head, mostly lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, chocolate, nutty), average hop (perfume), average yeast (leather, earth, leaves) with notes of date, smoke, cola, vanilla, and cinnamon. Full bodied, creamy texture, lively carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, light sweetness, heavy acidity and bitterness. Peat aroma with some lacto sweetness.

I loved this beer. Nice micro-foam head and a beautiful molasses color. The spice notes on the beer make it a really enjoyable experience.

Good tight, beige head and excellent ring lace. Nearly black color where no light can shine through. Dark malt aromas with a light yeast smells in the background. Light yeast. Very strong alcohol warmth on the initial sip. Relatively thin body with a low level of carbonation. Burnt coffee flavor with a hop kick which shows up nicely in the swallow and aftertaste. Lots of yeast bite as well.

Very solid epic this year. Dark as hell with a roasty smell. Thck beer with good rosted taste, dry from the roast and hops, very good.

22oz bottle: Appearance is pretty much pitch black with a slow fading tan head, aroma is pretty yeasty with hints of chocolate, flavor is again pretty yeasty along with roasted malt and some chocolate. Fits the Belgian style pretty well but could use a little more body.

Pours dark brown/black with tan head. Roasted malts and chocolate aromas with some smokiness. Flavors are all over the place. Roasted malts, clove, bannana, chocolate, licorice, a touch of smoke. Medium to full body with mild carbonation.
