Commercial Description:
This is quite a complex and layered beer. Bold and smooth chocolate malt flavors combine with a Belgian yeast lending tropical fruit/banana flavors and hints of spiciness, all complemented by citrus notes from an addition of tangerine peel. Rich vanilla beans add a nice counter to the chocolate malt - actually enhancing the chocolatiness. The finish is smooth, with additional traces of vanilla and toasted characters from French Oak. The goal for this edition of the Stone Vertical Epic Ale series is to be reminiscent of artisanal chocolates accentuated with orange.

bottle, pours dark brown with a medium tan head. Aroma is smoked peat and yeast. Smokey alcohol and peat with a strong dark candy sugar presence. I think this could rock with some age and the alcohol mellowing.

bottle - Pours black with a sizable tan head. The aroma is fairly mild. It’s yeasty with a little dark fruit, roast malt, and a touch of licorice. The taste is sweet roast malt with that Belgian yeast and dark chocolate notes. The bottle says it has tangerine peels. I’m not noticing that in the flavor. Perhaps the bitter roast malt flavors simply bury it. This brew is more like a strong, bubbly Belgian stout. It will be interesting to see how it ages.

Bottle. Pours black with a large, creamy dark brown head, mostly lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, chocolate, nutty), average hop (perfume), average yeast (leather, earth, leaves) with notes of date, smoke, cola, vanilla, and cinnamon. Full bodied, creamy texture, lively carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, light sweetness, heavy acidity and bitterness. Peat aroma with some lacto sweetness.

I loved this beer. Nice micro-foam head and a beautiful molasses color. The spice notes on the beer make it a really enjoyable experience.

Bottle at Pilsner Peters. Thanks to everybody for their generosity. Dark brown with ring and lace. Roasted chocolate and fruit aroma. Roasted chocolate fruit nuts ash earth with medium bitter finish. Very dry. A little Belgian yeastiness. Pretty good.

Good tight, beige head and excellent ring lace. Nearly black color where no light can shine through. Dark malt aromas with a light yeast smells in the background. Light yeast. Very strong alcohol warmth on the initial sip. Relatively thin body with a low level of carbonation. Burnt coffee flavor with a hop kick which shows up nicely in the swallow and aftertaste. Lots of yeast bite as well.

On tap at the Flying Saucer Fort Worth. Dark with a thick, dark brown head. Smokey aroma. Barbeque and roasted malt flavor. Tingly.
