The aroma picked up semi-sweet chocolates, molasses, and candied caramel laced with sweet, smoky earth, spicy yeast, and a touch of orange zest.. warm and welcoming on the back of the nose. The flavor opened with tangy tangerine and charred oak with rich cocoa and darker chocolates rolling onto the middle.. dark spices, yeast, and more oak surrounded.. citrus and tasty chocolates on the finish. Medium-bodied with tight carbonation on the middle and a looser feel around.. the oak and warmth were both a bit abrasive at times.. overall a decent feel and a tasty beer. Black with a medium, long lasting, lightly lacing, cinnamon tan head. Flavor is strong smoke, some oakiness, and chocolate. Finish is smoky, more smoke than I like and I like smoked meats, too much in beer overpowers the other complexities of the beer. beernovice39 (304), South Carolina, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 1, 2009 Bottle – The Wine Source. Black, tan creamy head. Complex roasted vanilla, dry oak, and mild coffee berry aromas layer well on waves of milk chocolate and guava-citrus cream. Hints of smoke emerge at room temp. Thick chocolate roast and dry wooden coffee flavors are well integrated on a soft foundation of vanilla and citrus zest. Full bodied and smooth, soft carbonation, light bittersweet finish. My favorite of the Epic’s to date…

Touch of smoke, roast, vanilla in the aroma. 7+ Flavour is lightly roasty, mild vanilla, light bitterness and mocha undertones. 7+ Smooth average to medium bodied palate. 3+ Decent, enjoyable, but I do not love it. Very earthy flavor very different.
This seems to need to want to sit for awhile, more than the others, but tasty now too.
some chocolate i suppose, this is not a belgian ale it seems. more like a porter or stout.
Nice lacing.
Guess i need to get a couple more and have at least one sit for a bit.
