The aroma was roasty with just a touch of the Belgian yeast aroma. The taste had a nice roastedness, some Coke taste, chocolate, a touch of vanilla, & no noticeable alcohol. This does taste more like a porter than a Belgian strong ale, but I guess It is a fusion of those styles as a Belgian Imp. Porter. Nice & enjoyable. Silphium (2139), Haslett, Michigan, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 10, 2009 Deep brown body with reddish highlights, thin tan head. Nose with oak and vanilla, with banana notes increasing with warming. Sharp, fruity body, with dark fruits, chocolate, clove, banana, and prickly alcohol. Somewhat astringent. Interesting beer, reminds me of Bell’s Hell Hath no Fury with oak and less roastiness. Very good. jbender (23), Hatboro, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 10, 2009 Enjoying a bottle on the day of brewing an attempt at its clone. Pours a dark brown with a golden creamy head. No light gets through the glass. Has a vanilla and tangerine aroma. Large body...can taste the chocolate malt and the vanilla on the end along with the tangerine. Great beer...I can only hope ours is close. pumpmaster (480), Pembroke Pines, Florida, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 9, 2009 Bottle and served in Duval snifter: Pour deep brown with a great creamy beige head and very nice lace. The aroma is slightly resiny and herbal hops, tangerine, banana and prune, milk chocolate, light pipe tobacco and smoke, and oak. The taste is a wonderful blend of sweet malts, twangy fruit, bitter hops, hop spice and earthy woody notes. The mouth feel accents the flavor profile with a smooth medium-body yet enough sprite biting character to keep you wanting more. I love it when dark beer is properly hopped up, sort of like a Black IPA with additional spices, a nice hybrid that hits on all cylinders... MIKEY LIKEY!!! This is best VE since 2004 and only topped by the world class 2002. flatmatt (224), Northville, Michigan, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 8, 2009 22 oz bottle. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is yeasty cloves on top of chocolate and roasty malts. Flavor is roasted malts with a mild sweetness, coffee, cocoa, smoke, and just hints of cloves. Mostly a slight Belgian spin on a porter. Pretty good, but a little unbalanced toward roastiness. jb (1053), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 8, 2009 I love the darker belgian strong ales. This one was unusual. Dark brown with reddish highlights, and a very thick dark tan head. Very spotty lacing. Nose is dark fruit, and yeast. Palate is interesting, hoppy which is weird for a Belgian, a bit of booze, licorice. Sweet finish. This is good, may need to store another bottle or 2. drfabulous (1266), Columbia, Missouri, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 7, 2009 Dark Belgian ale. Porter like. Some sweetness. Some wood taste. A very interesting and different beer. I’m still trying to figure it out. It was very tasty...yet ...what was it?
