Commercial Description:
Stone 10th Anniversary IPA harkens back to our earlier Anniversary Ales, with abundant hopping at many stages of the brewing process. Appropriately, the aroma is over-the-top, with pronounced piney and resiny hop flavors combined with tropical fruit esters and more subtle notes of toasted malts and alcohol. Our Stone 10th Anniversary Ale weighs in at 10% alcohol by volume (perfect for a 10th anniversary beer), and has a little more color and malt character than our other IPAs. In addition to using the new Summit hop variety in the brewhouse to provide the powerful bitterness, we went back through our records and found some of our favorite hops over the years, and used them to flavor this brew, including Chinook, Crystal, and large doses of Simcoe in the dry-hop to provide a huge, complex, piney, fruity and floral hop character. This is a colossal beer, big in every sense: hoppy, malty, rich, and strong! Right up our alley.

Had an aged 10th on tap at Papago. The beer is still wonderfully hoppy and is quite a bit better than when it was first released now that it has had time to age. A big double IPA.

22 oz bomber thanks to adrian910ss, thanks Adrian. Okay first let me start by saying I LOVE Stone and I do realize that this beer is 1 1/2 years old and I do know what happens to hops over time. I don’t think my rating of this beer, #460, will destroy it’s average. I am rating on what it tastes like today Feb 22nd 2008 and not what it was/could have been 1 1/2 years ago. Pours a murky orangey/reddish/brown with a large beige bubbly head. Malt dominant aroma with lots of caramel, toffee notes, a slight touch of citrus hops still lingers in the background and to a lesser extent some alcohol. Medium bodied with light carbonation and lots of alcohol warming. Flavor is shot. The hops have long ago went the way of Elvis and left the building. What remains is some caramel, toffee, bread and alcohol with a bit of a soapy aftertaste. This is the Daunte Culpepper of beers, way past it’s prime but still trying to stay in the game.

Bottle courtesy of DrJay on BA. Pours a rich amber color with a big offwhite head and some light lacing. Smell is malty with caramel like sweetness along with some sweet citrus. Little to no hop prensence left. Taste is caramel, alcohol, and candied orange peels. Somewhat surprised that the hops have basically entirely faded and that the alcohol is still this present. Decent, but not what it was intended to be any longer, I’m guessing.

Bomber. Pours hazy dark gold with very little head. Nose of old hops, skunkiness, old garbage cans, resins. I’m really afraid to taste this..here goes..Not fresh. Hop profile has smoothed out leaving a sweetness, very little malt profile, worn out hops. Very hard to get down. I’m getting tired of drinking these old IPA’s-I’m sure this beer was much better when fresh. This just doesn’t do it for me.

Oct. 2006 - Pink grapefruit. Pink grapefruit. Pink grapefruit. Pink grapefruit. How many times do I have to type this to make a "meaningful comment"? Very sweet grapefruit flavor with a lot of resinous flavor as well. Pretty hot alcohol burn as well. Can’t say I was a huge fan, but if you like huge hops, this is for you. Pass me the Ruination instead, please.

on tap -pours a light tan head and gold color. Aroma is medium malt-caramel apple, hint of spice. Taste is medium malt-caramel, apple (25% crystal malt? Or less with the one year of aging), secondary spicy hops. Smooth, mellow.

22oz bomber, tasted in Aug. 07. Pours a deep honey color with a reddish tint to it. Thin head of small bubbles that lingers through most of the glass. Smells very sweet, lots of hops in the nose. Some fruitiness in the nose, sweet citrus maybe. Tastes very sweet, with lots of syrupy hoppy flavors. Not at all bitter, unfortunately. Thick, thick, thick. Ok carbonation. On a side note the bottles have not held up nearly as well as the kegs on tap at the brewery.
