Commercial Description:
Stone 10th Anniversary IPA harkens back to our earlier Anniversary Ales, with abundant hopping at many stages of the brewing process. Appropriately, the aroma is over-the-top, with pronounced piney and resiny hop flavors combined with tropical fruit esters and more subtle notes of toasted malts and alcohol. Our Stone 10th Anniversary Ale weighs in at 10% alcohol by volume (perfect for a 10th anniversary beer), and has a little more color and malt character than our other IPAs. In addition to using the new Summit hop variety in the brewhouse to provide the powerful bitterness, we went back through our records and found some of our favorite hops over the years, and used them to flavor this brew, including Chinook, Crystal, and large doses of Simcoe in the dry-hop to provide a huge, complex, piney, fruity and floral hop character. This is a colossal beer, big in every sense: hoppy, malty, rich, and strong! Right up our alley.

Bottle. Thanks to Styles. Poured a golden color with a white frothy head. Aroma of hops and citrus. Taste hoppy at first with a nice citrus finish.

Hazy orange/amber pour with golden hues. Small white head with fair retention and thick lacing. The aroma has an intimidating and complex hop punch, bring in scents of grapefruit, lavender, honeydew melon and a touch of mint. A sizeable malt backbone is a welcome addition. Very lovely bouquet, smells very ripe, oily. Flavor is right away a very complex hop melange. More flavor of the same nature as the aroma, caramel maltiness is intense and delicious. The malt is almost as formidable as the hops. White pepper in the medium length and dry finish. Palate is very drying and full, quite soft as well. Enjoyable.

mostly clear amber color and a big tall rocky light tan head. aroma is very strong hop, pine needles. a bit herbal and fresh mint too. flavor is very bitter, pine resin hoppiness, a little ginny with an alcohol heat finish like vodka. doesn’t burn too much , but tells you it’s 10%. kind of like the ruiniation with heat.

Courtesy the anti-socialist. You know who he is. Pours a hazy orange with a very slim white head. Very floral in the smell, with hints of mandarin orange, rose petals, and hops. Very nice smell. Nice blend of hops, orange peel, and even a slight touch of pepper in the finish. carbonation seems perfect in this one. A good way to celebrate ten years!

22oz Bomber @ Coles, Buffalo NY. Huge hop aroma with pine & citrus also evident. Seems a little maltier than most Stone IPA’s Different but I like it. Prefer Ruination though.

Bomber. Pours a cloudy orange with a modest head. Aroma is full of resin, pine, citrus and hops. Finish is very bitter but with some sweetness as well. Nicely balanced. This reminds me of Dreadnaught but I like this much more.

Bottle. Amber with small off-white head. Aroma: Hoppy, grapefruit. Catty. Flavor: Orange-peel, grape and malt sweetness. Nice, but a bit unbalanced, too much grapefruit in aroma and flavor

This is a big big beer!!! As you first pull the glass beneath your nose you are hit by the hops a generous dry hopping of Simcoe and Chinook provide a sap-like pine aroma with subtle grapefruit undertones that give way to the alcohol fueled afterburn (10% abv). By the time that first gulp passes the your tongue you don’t know what hit you, its like some crazy jazz that make no sense but keeps you captivated and enthralled all the same. Here comes the immense bitterness and, suddenly your tongue is two sizes to small. The malt? Where is the malt? You take a second swig. Ahh… there’s the malt resting coyly on the tip of your tongue as if to say "I will keep your mouth from imploding when the bitterness hits."
