Commercial Description:
Stone 10th Anniversary IPA harkens back to our earlier Anniversary Ales, with abundant hopping at many stages of the brewing process. Appropriately, the aroma is over-the-top, with pronounced piney and resiny hop flavors combined with tropical fruit esters and more subtle notes of toasted malts and alcohol. Our Stone 10th Anniversary Ale weighs in at 10% alcohol by volume (perfect for a 10th anniversary beer), and has a little more color and malt character than our other IPAs. In addition to using the new Summit hop variety in the brewhouse to provide the powerful bitterness, we went back through our records and found some of our favorite hops over the years, and used them to flavor this brew, including Chinook, Crystal, and large doses of Simcoe in the dry-hop to provide a huge, complex, piney, fruity and floral hop character. This is a colossal beer, big in every sense: hoppy, malty, rich, and strong! Right up our alley.

Thanks to a recent business trip to Pasadena, I had a chance to sample this and a few other Stone ales that aren’t available in NJ. This one pours a beautiful ruddy ruby with a moonscape khaki head and lacing that practically etched the glass. Big fruity and piney aroma with hints of pepper and alcohol. The flavor was classic Stone - aggressive hops with plenty of malt to reign them in. Grapefruit, brown sugar, candy apples, caramel and BIG hops swirl, dance and battle for attention from the first sip to the last. Typically creamy and full Stone mouthfeel and a long, moderately dry but complex finish with a somewhat bracing bite of alcohol. Happy 10th Anniversary to the Brewing Arrogance!

Pours a deep golden with a brownish and orangey hue, with tan head. The aroma is huge earthy hops, leafy, and lemon rind. The flavor is nice, with extremely piney hops. Huge resiny lemon-like bitterness. There’s a subtle undertone of malt, which has a cookie like quality, and caramel hints as it warms. There’s a late slap of alcohol, and the finish is dry and grapefruit like, yet it’s cleaner than I expected, considering the huge hop flavors. Has a linger of subtle sweet notes left on the palate.

Stone brews great IPA’s and other hop bombs...yet this one seemed a little reserved. The coppery amber pour held a moderate white head aloft briefly. The nose was all about the hops...citrus and pine. The rich caramel malt balanced the restrained hops pretty well...and that might have been my problem I was primed for a So-Cal hop attack that never quite arrived. But very drinkable nonetheless.

Thanks to asteele8!! Nice pour. Heavy foamy head. Beautiful orange glow. Sharp hop aroma. Flavors of cotton candy last on the palate. Not alot of bitterness although the hop aroma was present. A great beer to say the least. I will have to rate this again after the next one. It was quite early in the morning...

Pours copper with a medium, lasting head. Very fruity tropical aroma. I smell lots of citrus, but mostly pineapple. Huge sweet bitterness as soon as the beer touches the tongue. Awesome blend of big juicy hops, sweet malt, and just enough alcohol to kick. Beauty. Rerate on 6/17/07 this beer has gotten much better and blends together REALLY well now! Doesn’t get much better than this.

A very rich hops aroma from a slight hazed orange/red pour. The malt aroma comes through clearly but the hops dominate. A sweet maltiness and hops flavor come into play here. A nice beer that has that alcohol warmth that makes a beer special. I really like beers that are sweet and have an alcohol warmth going on. This beer does. Call me a Stone whore but so far I like all their beers mucho.
