Commercial Description:
Stone 10th Anniversary IPA harkens back to our earlier Anniversary Ales, with abundant hopping at many stages of the brewing process. Appropriately, the aroma is over-the-top, with pronounced piney and resiny hop flavors combined with tropical fruit esters and more subtle notes of toasted malts and alcohol. Our Stone 10th Anniversary Ale weighs in at 10% alcohol by volume (perfect for a 10th anniversary beer), and has a little more color and malt character than our other IPAs. In addition to using the new Summit hop variety in the brewhouse to provide the powerful bitterness, we went back through our records and found some of our favorite hops over the years, and used them to flavor this brew, including Chinook, Crystal, and large doses of Simcoe in the dry-hop to provide a huge, complex, piney, fruity and floral hop character. This is a colossal beer, big in every sense: hoppy, malty, rich, and strong! Right up our alley.

22 ounce bottle from cdog69, shared with csbosox, Indra, and frizzzzle. Firey reds, oranges, and yellows. Very clear. Big ol’ white head. One whiff is like being beaten about the head by dome goons with a hop bat dipped in caramel. Holy crap. Enourmous hop flavor as well. Bittersweet finish. Kind of think and syrupy on the palate. I’ll take an I V of this stuff please.

This beer pours a light, coppery color with a small head. The scent is very flowery and refreshing, with lots of orange and a bit of spice -- this one smells delightful. In typical IPA fashion, this beer is thick and juicy, with a highly citrus flavor. Lots of hops in this beer, with a dry finish.

Bomber shared with muenster and NachlamSie. Pours deep copper with off-white head. The aroma is a dumptruck full of fruity hops-- tons of pineapple and orange, and some bready malt. The flavor explodes with pineapple and floral hops all over the place. It’s aggressive, but not overwhelming. There’s a crap ton of hop flavor, but the bitterness is within reason. Biscuity malt backbone evolves into a brown sugar sweetness as I get used to the hops. It finishes with a resiny pine taste which melds into a smooth aftertaste. I’m impressed.

Bottle split with Muenster, Tronraner. Pours a rich blood red with a fine, frothy off-white head. Aroma = hops. There is nothing subtle here, a true Stone brew. The nose has a dense fusion of a pine forest, grapefruit, juicy floral notes, biscuits, caramel. The flavor is huge, off the scale. Predominantly hop flavors are blasting my palate, but it’s not destructively bitter, although a sting on the tongue is noticed here and there. The actual depth of the bright, acidic notes is staggering. Such bold flavors battling with each other to make themselves noticed on my palate make it hard to analyze the subtleties, but I know I like it. Pineapple is in the mix along with pine, marijuana, there’s just an array of fruity, zesty notes. There is an adequate balance of biscuity sweetness to make it almost well rounded. This beer is awesome.

Oh, boy. I was excited about this one. Bomber, shared with tronraner, and NachlamSie. Pours very a vibrant red color, with a nice fluffy, off-white head. The aroma is a massive hop bouquet. Lots of pineapple, grapefruit, pine, cannabis, and other random citrus fruits. The flavor was a bit surprising to me. After the aroma, I expected a bitter onslaught, yet the first thing I noticed about this beer was the depth, and malt balance. This was not an over the top, all out bitter war between the drinker and the hops, but instead a very nice immersion into hopland.

Mediumm amber color - slightly hazy with a medium head. A nice big beer - deep flavors of rich malt, lots of citrusy hops - very well balanced.

22 oz bottle - Pours copper with a one finger head. It has an assertive hops aroma with lots of citrus. The flavor is, as expected, intensely hoppy. Plenty of that citrus glimpsed in the aroma shines through in the flavor. There’s also big malty sweetness, which balances the massive hops pretty well. I detected little alcohol presence even though it weighs in at 10%. Finally there’s the long, bitter finish. It’s not perfect, but this is once again a very enjoyable brew from Stone.

Shared this bottle with Duane. This is defintely a IIPA, even though the bottle only calls it an IPA. Tons of malt in this one, almost too much as the hops aren’t as pronounced as I like them to be in an IPA or IIPA. This was very tasty and very smooth. I wish we could get Stone in Champaign.
