I used to love all the Stone beers but I’ve really lost interest in them lately. I had pretty low expectations for this but still wanted to try it. Clear dark amber body with a large white head and solid lacing. Aroma is a blast of Simcoe hops (which I lost interest in after Weyerbacher’s IIPA) with some caramel backing. Big fruity (peach, tropical fruits, grapefruit), piney, spicy hops. This is way too sweet to be an IIPA. The malts are sloppy and sugary. Some enjoyable flavors here, but it’s mostly a mess of them. mkobes (2104), paramus, New Jersey, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 28, 2006 Clear amber body with a creamy off white head. Big aroma, piney, grapefruity, floral, peppery hops. More alcohol comes out as it warms. The flavour is quite sweet and fruity with caramel malts leading to a big peppery hop bitterness. There is noticeable alcohol in the finish. The mouthfeel is full and velvety. A bit sweet and malty for me. apoptosis (1316), Long Island, New York, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 28, 2006 This is a great-looking beer - big, soapy off-white head, nicely hued with a dark, reddish copper. Full, extremely floral, hoppy aroma - crisp, fresh hops, almost as if it went through the dogfish randall thingie. The flavor is very well-balanced, with just the right amount of sweetness to balance the extreme bitterness. It is not syrupy at all, which some of the Imperial IPA’s have a problem with. Not this one. Definetly a good, smooth anniversary beer. notalush (2692), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 28, 2006 Bottle delivered in beer swap 2.0 - light copper with huge ring of lace - bright and fruity aroma at first (with some flowery, perfume-like aromas), followed by some bready characteristics and sweet caramel/toffee - quite sweet and almost syrupy, but the abundant (but not oerpowering) hop profile keeps it from getting cloying - some herbal notes arise briefly, followed by sweet strawberry, orange and grapefruit - the simcoe hops become quite apparent as the beer (somewhat) dries out in the finish, leaving their long bitter twang to mingle with the fruit to make the beer almost tangy - very barleywine-ish, so it should age well. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Sep 28, 2006 Updated: Jun 28, 2007Bottle (22oz): Huge caramel and toffee aroma with banana bread, pineapple, peach, and moderate citrus and piney hops. Pours a transparent dark amber with a small soapy off-white head that quickly fades to a ring. Lots of caramel up front with a hint of banana bread. Grapefruit hopped finish with some pineapple, a hint of a acidity, and light alcohol flavor, but big alcohol warmth. Has to be the thickest and most syruppy IIPA’s I’ve ever had. It would be tough to find a IIPA with a better mouthfeel. I’m not one to age IIPA’s since I usually like the fresh hops, but in my opinion this beer is definitely meant for aging. Scores a 4.1 now, but I see this score improving with time. Somewhat reminds me of Devil Dancer.
I’ll leave my original rating, but this is not aging gracefully at all. In fact it’s gone downhill extremely fast hopdog (5622), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 28, 2006 22oz bottle. Poured a deep orange / amber color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of citrus, orange peel, spicy hopiness, pine, tropical fruitiness, and light caramel. Tastes of citrus, spicy, melons, caramel, and has a light sugary sweetness. Some alcohol in the finish. Nicely bitter with a lighter sweet balance. MI2CA (1266), Noblesville, Indiana, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 28, 2006 22oz - Aroma of freash earty hops, carmel syrup and alcohol. Pours hazy orange with a medium head and good lacing. Flavor matches aroma with a citrus zing and sweet after taste. Palate is sticky and tart. A tasty brew I should get more of while I can.
