Commercial Description:
Our Stone 11th Anniversary Black IPA uses de-husked dark malt imported from Germany and American high alpha hop varieties, including Chinook, with Simcoe and Amarillo hops combined in the dry-hop. These ingredients combine to provide this beer with complex citrus and roast flavors, neither one overwhelming the other, but both intense enough to assure a totally unique and deep flavor profile. It's not a Porter, and it's not a Stout.

Dark chestnut color, very big head. Powerful American hop aroma, resiny and fruity. Good body strength, with a strong caramel flavor, some chocolate, sweetness, extreme hopping. Not much poetry about it, just a war tale, and I like it!

Dark mahogany color; thin creamy head. Wonderful hoppy aroma, resiny and fruity (sweet nuts, bitter oranges...). Good body strength, very strong caramel and malt flavor, it would be sweet but it’s overwhelmed by the extreme and aromatic hopping. Great.

22 oz bottle around its release date and around July 20th, 2008. Ahhhh, I love it when beers are this good. This pours a silky looking black with lots of carbonation leading to a nice tar looking retentive head. Some of my fondest beer aroma memories come from allowing my nose to open up to the sweet yet bitter and roasty notes of the aroma that comes blasting off this one. Its like a blended of hoppy banana almost...absolutely amazing! The flavor continues to impress bringing a thick malt coating to the palate before balancing it out with tons of roasted malt mixed with a HUGE hop blast! You can reeeeally tell this one is dry-hopped, even a year on it didn’t take away from the bliss! Almost liquoricey in the finish...this beer is just that GOOD. Now I just need to find more! Hahahaha...

Bottle from Secret Santa. Dark chestnut brown with a 1 cm thick off-white head. Nice mix of rich peppery grapefruit rind hops and sweet dark bready malts. Taste is definitely hop forward, even after a year. Citric hop bite with a hint of caramel and toast. Strikes an interesting and tasty balance.

Also tried @ RBSG, on cask with wet simcoe hops (my score still reflects the bottle), which kicked in a robust hop aroma, and tipped the scales to the hop side, but still worked wonderfully.

This was deep brown in color with a fluffy tan to brown head that retained better than I would have thought. The nose gives off aromas of citrus, chocolate, dark caramel and spice. In the mouth it is medium-bodied and comes off light on its feet. There are nice dark roasted malt and coffee flavors in the mouth that finish with some enjoyable bitterness.

Pours black with beige head. Bitter hop aroma with big roasted malt. Nice smooth taste with a warming mouth feel. Hits with smooth bitter surge digging in throughout the experience. Some dark roast flavors also prevail with smoke and light java. Thought it was going to be a reiteration of double bastard but It isn’t. Great beer!
