LyndaNova (492), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Oct 2, 2009 Cold 22oz bottle: Pours an opaque black with a medium sized chocolate head. Aroma is of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate and some notes of dark fruit. Taste is of roasted malts well blended with grassy hops. Heavy bodied and smooth with ample carbonation. Ending is nicely bitter (like dark chocolate) with coffee notes. mesperon (133), Jersey City, New Jersey, USA Sep 28, 2009 Pours black as night with a chocolate brown edge, beautiful brown head. Huge aroma of deep roast, lots of chocolate and a little coffee. Very bold taste. Dark and bitter as it looks, chewy mouthfeel. Dark chocolate is very obvious and compliments to roast very well. Awesome beer. zach8270 (2051), Henrietta, New York, USA Sep 25, 2009 (bottle - 22 oz) Dark black pour with a thin tan head. Aroma is surprisingly light with a decent amount of roasted and burnt malts, some dark fruits, and some sweetness. Almost like a combination of caramel and cream. Flavor begins lightly sweet but then the chocolate takes over. Lightly bittersweet with a mild roasted middle. Finishes lightly bitter and fruity. Oatmeal adds a nice creamy texture to the beer. Boliv (188), New York, USA Sep 25, 2009 Bomber. Thick and syrupy pour, a glimpse of deep garnet as light peeks through, but pretty much black with a thin dark brown head. Aroma of sweet roasted chocolate malt, baking chocolate, coffee (latte, actually), and a hint of alcohol. Maybe some red raspberries as well. Sweet berries initially, but then a flood of super bittersweet cocoa, finishing bitter and dry, and a touch of sourness. Bitter coffee grounds, hazelnut, vanilla, and...strange, but Kalamata olives. Medium to thick mouthfeel. I like this, I really enjoy the contribution of the chocolate here. drseusszb200 (185), Florida, USA Sep 21, 2009 poured like black syrup with a thin brown head. smelled of dark chocolate. very sweet start ending with a bitter finish. johndoughty (2150), cheslyn hay, West Midlands, England Sep 21, 2009 Bottle. Black with a small head and left no lacing. Full bodied with chocolate and a gentle bitterness which took time to develop. Impressive as you would expect from this brewery. obguthr (986), Poquoson, Virginia, USA Sep 19, 2009 Dark chocolate and charcoal aroma, not strong. Black, thin tan head. Charred oak. Horehound finish. Alcohol content obvious. Uncomplex and perhaps overly bitter. Ok beer, but there are way better imperial stouts.
