topherh (878), Kearney, Missouri, USA Nov 18, 2008 22 oz bottle poured black with a fluffy brown head that diminished quickly. Aromas of roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, and booze. Flavor is roasted malt, molasses, and a slight hint of chocolate. Butters (1622), Virginia, USA Nov 17, 2008 Bomber. Pours black oil with dark brown head. Sweet chocolate nose and some roast malt. Lots of roast malt in the flavor and bitter chocolate. Alcohol is evident. Medium full body with moderately low carbonation. Could use some cellaring I think. piscator34 (1121), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Nov 17, 2008 Bottled sample via oakbluff. Jet black in colour with low to moderate carbonation. Aromas of dark chocolate, dry red wine , dark toffee, and a bit of oatmeal. Very dry in the mouth, with more dark chocolate and vineous notes. Additional elements of minerals (flint and chalk), light molasses, medium roast coffee, and caramel are also present. Heavy in the mouth, in spite of how dry it is. Good, but not great overall. 0o9i (326), Reno, Nevada, USA Nov 3, 2008 22oz bottle. Black body topped with a brown ring of coarse foam. Leaves a coating on the side of the glass of brown film, like whole milk leaves white on a glass. Aroma is molasses, chocolate, oats, and roasted malts with an undertone of vodka. Mouth is full with light carbonation on the finish to dry it out enough. Flavor is molasses, roasted malts, hints of alcohol, and a finish that smacks of oatmeal with a hint of chocolate. Chocolate is quite subdued, especially considering that it’s in the name of the beer. A nice oatmeal imperial, very drinkable. kevd193213 (477), Hope Valley, Rhode Island, USA Nov 2, 2008 Bomber. Black, motor oil pour with a medium brown head. Aroma of chocolate and coffee. Taste of dark chocolate, oatmeal with roasted almonds present and a really nice even but bitter finish. Brewsmith (136), Torrance, California, USA Nov 2, 2008 From a 1 L growler filled at the brewery on 10/31/08. Aroma is dark fruit and roast, a little coffee. Opaque black with a small tan head. Roast character comes through in the flavor with coffee and dark chocolate, all in one blend. If I didn’t know there was chocolate in there I would assume it was from the grain bill. Bitterness is balanced but not overpowering. Thick and chewy, creamy, smooth. As it warms the chocolate character comes out more and blends nicely with the sweetness. Very nicely done. tilldeath (72), Arvada, Colorado, USA Nov 2, 2008 Great especially for an oatmeal stout full flavor with good mouth feel and a not overly bitter finish. zeke626 (301), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Oct 31, 2008 Bottle ordered via Bottle Trek. Pours an opaque, black body with thin, dark brown head that quickly disappears. Aroma of chocolate, oatmeal, and lightly roasted malt along with a hint of leather and dark fruit. Flavor of roasted malts and dark chocolate along with a sweet wood and coffee undertone. Mouthfeel is smooth and thick, but not overly viscous. Bitter cocoa finish.
