Wasatch (270), Layton, Utah, USA Oct 25, 2008 Poured into a Stone glass a nice black color, nice carbonation, nice little fizzy tan head, which leaves some sticky lacing behind. The nose is slightly sweet, malty, dark chocolate. The taste is slightly sweet, big malts, lots of bitter chocolate. Medium body. Very drinkable, this is a very tasty brew. Thanks Casey.
tronraner (1906), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Oct 24, 2008 Bomber. The pour is silent, and comes out quite black and viscous with a moderate tan head. The aroma is just a little bit boozy, with a good dose of bitter chocolate and more spicy hops than I was expecting. The flavor is a mellow chocolate with a sort of wooden and grainy bitterness behind it. Then come rum and some dark fruits. It finishes with chocolate, a little bit of roasty coffee, and alcohol, which seems to meld into a somewhat nutty aftertaste. CelticBrew (676), The Crystal Coast, North Carolina, USA Oct 24, 2008 Poured from bomber almost completely black and thick, showed little to no light brown foamy head. Aroma of bitter chocolates, hops, burnt vanilla beans and coffee. Flavour of bitter hops, burnt oats, coffee and malt comes through. Extremely smooth beer, flavour supreme, vanilla nicely balances this beer, makes me want more!! Sticky mouth feel, oily in character, give me gallons on Tap!!!! Stone does it again, had in my fridge for about 3 months, begging me, there fore ins gone, with pleasure........ Skinnyviking (4142), Copenhagen, Denmark Oct 23, 2008 Draught. High creamy and lasting brown head. Pitch black body. Coffee choccolate aroma and flavor with a touch of vanilla and a good deal of hops bitterness. High carbonation and a long sweet aftertaste. jrob21 (1252), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Oct 22, 2008 Finally cracked this one open. Bittersweet chocolate flavors and the oatmeal aspect mellows out the body, profile, and sweetness a bit. Roasted malt aroma and some coffee as well. Flavor also has a tinge of vanilla and there is a bit of a bitter hop finish. This one is nice and not overwhelming like many of the impy stouts running around these days. puzzl (2579), New York, New York, USA Oct 22, 2008 Bottled. Amazing that Stone has ti distribution to get this beer to 500 ratings so quickly! Great pour, very black, smallish but lovely head. Very strong aroma, a lot of vodka, peanut, coffee roastiness. The vodka component is nearly unbearable. Taste is quite nice, with no alcohol burn like the aroma, instead just a lot of roast and pure dark chocolate. Smooth and thick and fairly drinkable, though the vodka from the aroma is felt a bit in the finish. A pretty solid beer. This sits pretty evenly between the classic, dry, lower ABV Imperial Stout and the new mega 13% and really sweet stouts. 1FastSTi (2551), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Oct 21, 2008 Pitch black body with a fully lasting creamy dark brown head that leaves a dense lacing. The aroma is dark chocolate with oatmeal and light hops. Not very strong, however. The flavor reminds me of a Bell’s Expedition Stout in that it’s got that heavy stout with nice chocolate and strange weird bitter yeasty thing going on that I’ve only ever had from Bell’s until now. Not quite as complex, however. And the oatmeal overpowers but works with this. The palate is sweet and has a long mouthwatering thing. Medium-full creamy body. Shag (1922), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA Oct 21, 2008 A black appearance with a beige head. The aroma contains some chocolate, coffee, oatmeal cookies. A good deal of roastiness. The flavor is a good combo of bitter and sweet. On the sweet end I get milk chocolate and more oatmeal flavors. On the bitter end I get a lot of roasted stuff like chewing on chocolate covered coffee beans. Not as thick on the palate as I expected. Overall a very nice beer.
