| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 3, 2008 22 oz bottle: poured dark as a night in the country. Full sized brown, lasting head. Lots of lacing on my glass. Fresh roasted coffee aroma with some chocolate. Lots of coffee in the taste. Initially I thought this was sweet but as I drink it, it seems to become dryer, especially in the finish. Full bodied. Good stuff. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 31, 2008 Black colored, moderate to large head, good lacing and retention. Aroma is chocolately with lesser roast, coffee and caramel. Medium to full bodied, alcohol is present but not overbearing. Somewhat silky but still not extremely drinkable. About what I expected I guess. This and the smoked porter are my favorite dark beers from them, with 11 and RIS left in the dust. tronraner (1934), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 24, 2008 Bomber. The pour is silent, and comes out quite black and viscous with a moderate tan head. The aroma is just a little bit boozy, with a good dose of bitter chocolate and more spicy hops than I was expecting. The flavor is a mellow chocolate with a sort of wooden and grainy bitterness behind it. Then come rum and some dark fruits. It finishes with chocolate, a little bit of roasty coffee, and alcohol, which seems to meld into a somewhat nutty aftertaste. AmEricanbrew (1929), orange, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 8, 2008 Draft@ Brouwers. Black with a tan head. Cocoa powder and roasted malt aromas. Full body. Strong flavor is chocolate, coffee, with a harsh charred oatmeal flavor, which reminded me of a burnt oatmeal / peanut butter cookie. Astringent alcohol bite to finish. Is this better in a bottle? | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 21, 2008 A black appearance with a beige head. The aroma contains some chocolate, coffee, oatmeal cookies. A good deal of roastiness. The flavor is a good combo of bitter and sweet. On the sweet end I get milk chocolate and more oatmeal flavors. On the bitter end I get a lot of roasted stuff like chewing on chocolate covered coffee beans. Not as thick on the palate as I expected. Overall a very nice beer. ucusty (1912), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA
