I liked this beer. It’s a black pour with a two finger brown head. The aroma is of oatmeal and bittersweet chocolate. Nice on the palate: thick & smooth, overall it/’s a tasty combination of oatmeall, chocolate & roasty flavors with an appropriate level of hoppiness

Pours an oily opaque black with a spotty-lacing airy light brown head. Aroma of sweet caramel and dark chocolate with a touch of molasses and dark fruits. Body starts fairly full and lightly malty sweet revealing a rich, bittersweet dark chocolate flavor which lingers into a medium roasted finish. Smooth, farily complex and true to its name.

Pours an opache black with a coarse tan head. Aroma is lightly sweet chocolate, vanilla and a bit earthy. Flavor is smooth chocolate, some roasted and black malt bitterness and acidity with just a hint of alcohol. Finishes nice and bitter chocolate Long. Medium to full bodied, silky smooth texture. This one will no doubt improve with age.

Cask, gravity dispense, at the GBBF 2008. ABV was said to be 9.5%. Pitch black colour, minimal head. Complex roasted aroma with notes of oak, dark chocolate, liquorice and tar. Intense flavour of cocoa / chocolate, figs(?) and coffee(?) - I have some difficulties reading my own handwriting here .... Warming mouthfeel, oaky and alcoholic notes. A great sipping beer.

Cask, GBBF 08. Near black with no head.n Aromas are sweet molasses with lots of herbal notes. Coffee and chocolate with woody notes. Flavours are dark chocolate with coffee. Sweet molasses with smoky tobacco. Vinous, fruity and dry on the finish. Great.

Bottle. Midnight black pour with a small brown head. Nose is dark roasted malts, dark, bittersweet chocolate, burnt oatmeal and coffee. Taste is very bitter and roasty. Lots of bittersweet chocolate, dark, roasted malts, soft alcohol notes, cold coffee, and burnt oatmeal. Body is thick and chewy. The actual pour was just as thick and soupy. Carbonation is moderate with dense bubbles. Oily in spots as well with soft warmth. Ends with more roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee, burnt oatmeal, oily hops and a touch of licorice. Will be interesting to see how this ages!

Draft at Stone Bistro. A black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of roasted malt and medium notes of sweet malt, oatmeal, and coffee. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of roasted malt and oatmeal, as well as lighter notes of alcohol, that is felt on the tongue, leading to a dry and roasted finish.

poured a deep black hue almost oily looking a thin brown head that had mild retention. Aroma had heavy roasted cocoa notes and a mild leather note. Initial flavor was of heavy bitter dark chocolate/dark coffee followed buy a smooth oat note. But in the end the roasted qualities rained supreme. A nice dry finish.
