Very dark pour with a nice medium brown head. This looked and smelled like it was going to be a Great beer. I may not have been ready for the bitter or chocolate taste but I did not really enjoy the taste of this beer. The aftertaste was good but the initial taste a bit harsh for me. --RERATE(July 08 [2.9]): I tried again after tasting several other imperial stouts - I am thinking that the dark fruits are offending this for me - I love the Roast flavor and chocolate. --RERATE (FEb 09) - I had this again and really enjoyed the chocolate and coffee flavors and didn’t notice any offending flavors, in fact I really enjoyed it.

@Freaktoberfest from bottle, pours brown with a chocolate color head, aroma of coffee, chocolate and nuts, flavors of dark chocolate, coffee, cherry liquor, caramel and soy sauce, nice bitter aftertaste, smooth texture, full and complex body. Great Beer

22 oz bottle. Dark brown/black with brown tints. Nose is booze, malt, chocolate, and sweetness. Flavor is cocoa, malt, sweet and sharp. Nice finish in the mouth. Yummy. VBS is on crack.

Pours black with a thick brown head. Smells more toasted and smoked than sweet or bitter chocolate. Slight alcohol smell, too. Taste is smooth and creamy and more sweet chocolate than bitter. Surprisingly easy drinking and just sweet enough.

Totally black pour, lots of thick creamy head...great bitterness from the roasted chocholate malts and coffee undertones...great mouthfeel

Very dark brown. Roasty and burnt dark fruits on the nose - even more so than in the Zywiec I just had. There is a nice nuttiness to this nose as well, from the oatmeal. Very oaty body. Rich chocolate taste with a hint of roast, slight burnt fruit. This really cuts between your typical low-grav oatmeal stout and a top-fermented Baltic porter.

Cask at GBBF 08. Jet black, low white head and low but fine condition. Pleasant mix of roast coffee and chocolate in the nose, full bodied sweet chocolate notes in the mouth with a balance of roasted bitter coffee and a hint of liquorice that lingers sweetly in the finish again to be balanced with a delicate coffee bitterness
