This looked and smelled like it was going to be a Great beer. I may not have been ready for the bitter or chocolate taste but I did not really enjoy the taste of this beer.
The aftertaste was good but the initial taste a bit harsh for me.
--RERATE(July 08 [2.9]): I tried again after tasting several other imperial stouts - I am thinking that the dark fruits are offending this for me - I love the Roast flavor and chocolate.
--RERATE (FEb 09) - I had this again and really enjoyed the chocolate and coffee flavors and didn’t notice any offending flavors, in fact I really enjoyed it. zvikar (431), Tel-Aviv, Israel

Smells more toasted and smoked than sweet or bitter chocolate. Slight alcohol smell, too. Taste is smooth and creamy and more sweet chocolate than bitter. Surprisingly easy drinking and just sweet enough. thefle (113), , New Jersey, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 23, 2009 Very dark brown. Roasty and burnt dark fruits on the nose - even more so than in the Zywiec I just had. There is a nice nuttiness to this nose as well, from the oatmeal. Very oaty body. Rich chocolate taste with a hint of roast, slight burnt fruit. This really cuts between your typical low-grav oatmeal stout and a top-fermented Baltic porter. rauchbier (3000), Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, England

Pleasant mix of roast coffee and chocolate in the nose, full bodied sweet chocolate notes in the mouth with a balance of roasted bitter coffee and a hint of liquorice that lingers sweetly in the finish again to be balanced with a delicate coffee bitterness
