Commercial Description:
Stone 13th Anniversary Ale pours brilliant deep red with a light tan foam. Up front, the aroma is all piney, resinous and citrus hops. Upon tasting, the hops are still on the front, and they are balanced with the malty, toffee like flavors contributed from the blend of crystal and amber malts used in the brewhouse. The finish is deliciously bitter, with a touch of warmth provided by the 9.5% alcohol. Bitterness comes in at 90+ IBU.

22oz bottle. Dark red with a creamy light beige head that leaves lasting foam. The aroma is a nice mix between spicy and citric hops, some nectarine, apricot, toffee, and brown sugar. The flavor is actually less malty than I was expecting, with a nice toffee and dried fruit sweetness that quickly gives way to lots of fruity and bitter hops. Medium bodied with smooth carbonation. Light really, for how much alcohol is in it. My one complaint would actually be that it may be lacking a little malt flavor, but this also makes a very drinkable beer. Much better than last years offering, and not really that far off of Tongue Buckler.

My favourite part, the nose! Wonderfully orange-piney malt up front during the pour. Toasty, candy coated malts with a nice roasty flavour. Stong alcohol and coffee flavoured hops at the finish. Decent creamy mouthfeel. This is akin to a Tennesee sippin whiskey.....to be savoured by the sip.

bottle from Sam’s Quikstop. Great aroma, sweet, citrus, caramel, little minty / pine. Dark brownish orange color, good head that faded quick. Spotty lace. Bitter sweet flavor, citrus and pine. little detergenty astringent taste. Medium body Lite creamy mouthfeel, bitter dry finishAroma was highlight for me, flavor took a turn for the worst, well maybe not worst, but a downturn non the less. Seem kind of thin bodied to me for a big beer....

[9/5/08] Bottle sample during LCRBM at Kulminator in Antwerp. Clear dep reddish-brown. Aroma of floral, citrusy and piney hops. Flavor starts a bit sweet with some slightly cookie-ish malt, and contiues bitter and resinous. Medium-full body.

Pretty nice experience. Beer pours very dark amber with an average tan colored head that is retained. Aroma is somewhat confusing with a big piney hop note, rubbing alcohol, and toffee. Flavor succeeds more than the aroma. The toffee, note works better here and the alcohol is present, but not burning. Lots of hoppy bitterness. This seems like a double IPA with a huge malt bill. It is somewhat difficult to analyze, but is a successful amalgam, IMO. Prost!
