| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 19, 2009 Pretty nice experience. Beer pours very dark amber with an average tan colored head that is retained. Aroma is somewhat confusing with a big piney hop note, rubbing alcohol, and toffee. Flavor succeeds more than the aroma. The toffee, note works better here and the alcohol is present, but not burning. Lots of hoppy bitterness. This seems like a double IPA with a huge malt bill. It is somewhat difficult to analyze, but is a successful amalgam, IMO. Prost! alobar (1027), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 19, 2009 Dark brown/ black color with a tan head. Aroma of hops and pine. Flavor of caramel, pine, citrus, and a balanced hop finish. An impressive offering from Stone. skoisirius (584), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 19, 2009 Updated: Dec 14, 2009Lots of piney hints on the nose...spices, and sweet malts. LOTS of sweet malts. The flavor is all over the place with hops! Not sure if that was intended, but they take over for most of it. It seems like a dark IPA with the roasty notes, but never really goes into that either. I enjoyed the random toffee resiny finish, but overall, kind of didn’t know what to think about this one. Flavor filled, but doesn’t strike to be exactly what it is? ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 19, 2009 While I have come accustomed to not being wow’d by stone beers as of recent times, this one was an exception. Red colored beer with a thick tan head on it. Smell is primarily hops, little bit of alcohol, some sweet caramel malts. Smells really fresh. I imagine this one will not hold up for long, so drink it while its still good! Taste is very hoppy, strong, bitter, citrus, some grapefruits, and a nice pine flavor from the hops. Pretty good effort here from stone, I am pleased. Macadem (103), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Sep 19, 2009 Pours very dark brown, nearly black with a dense off white head. Smells amazing, strong hops, pecans, cranberry, pine and juniper. Taste is roasted nuts, pine, chestnuts and english tea on the after palate. nice lacing. CUJO (367), Brooklyn, New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 19, 2009 sample: RNH: pours a deep mahagony, dry head, great lacing! Damn this beer is deep: loads of hops, yet there are strong wine/ scotch qualities through esters, fruits?, an oily texture... I picked up some mild roasted qualities also some light sugars maybe honey/ caramel. Again high esters, a very warming beer. ansermadide (516), Kyle, Texas, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 18, 2009 Bomber on September 18, 2009. Pours a muddy, dark brown color with a dense, light brown head and thick lacing. This is a serious drink! Aroma of resin, malt, and hops. Heavy, yet subdued hop flavor, followed by a typical Stone strong ale body and finish. Warmth from the alcohol and some residual hops leave the finish bitter and strong, but not all-consuming.
