| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 27, 2009 Dark amber pour with nice frothy tan head. Big hoppy and floral nose. The first taste is all hops, but then that fades to dark roasted coffee with hints of smoke and carmalized sugars. Some warmth from the alcohol, but well hidden. Not as hoppy as the nose suggest. Well balanced! zach8270 (2131), Henrietta, New York, USA

Aroma is incredibly floral and hoppy with some smooth malt and a touch of smoky fruits. Flavor is a blast of smoky and floral hops with a smooth malt middle and a piny and resiny finish. Some lightly bitter hops at the end. A lot smoother than I expected from the aroma. cbeers21 (583), Miami, Florida, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 27, 2009 Deep ruby brown with lasting brownish head, nice retention. Carmel hops bittering with a light apple fade to smell as it progressed. Scotchy to smell, both in the butter and peat variety, woodsy/earthy sweet to smell. As well as being hoppingly pined. bittering backbone with a caramel vanilla sweetness. Very nice and tasty. HoppyAlesToYou (29), , Indiana, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 26, 2009 Upon filling my snifter I find a deep amber brew topped by an inch of beige effervescence. Sniffs of caramel, resin, spruce, and licorice greet me at various times throughout finishing the glass. Screech! And thats where it ends. The flavor is rather mundane for Stone, a bit malty and hopped to the gargoyle’s wingtips...but two dimensional. Mouth feel was OK, but this is not one of my favorites from Stone. fly (1333), austin, Tejas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 25, 2009 tastes thirteenish or possibly thirteenesque. It be bitter, roasty and enjoyable enough that I’ve had three of them by my lonesome in four days and plan to get more before they disappear. theisti (1689), Leawood, Kansas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 24, 2009 22 oz bomber purchased mail order from Southbay in Imperial Beach, California. Pour is a hazed brown with light ruby and a one inch off white head. Aroma of big resin fresh dirty hops, some citrus peel poking through. Taste is really aggressive, totally abrasive resin hops. Some bitter dark cocoa in the back gives it some added character. A bit of perceptible heat in the dry bitter finish. Palate is medium, coats some, alcohol heat ends up not being too much. This is a very in your face beer. savnac (453), Palmer, Alaska, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 24, 2009 22 oz bottle (finally got this in Alaska). Pours a clear brownish red with an off white medium head. Resinous hop aroma with hints of pine and citrus, there is also a sugary sweet scent in there too. The bitterness hits you right in the face then the sweetness creeps in somewhere in the middle and then the bitterness comes back with avenges and slaps you around like a bitch. Somewhere between a full and medium bodied beer with a mild carbonation and a thick oily mouth feel. This is a very bitter brew that finds a decent balance with the big 9.5% malt base. I’m just glad to see Stone still doing stuff like this.
