Dark black pour with decent tan head that diminished pretty quickly. First sip makes you say whoa. Coffee and dark malts at forefront, warming after effects of the 9.5 abv, the malty roastedness stays on the tongue long after. BrockLanders (750), Panama City, Florida, USA

Dark translucent reddish/brown pour....finger wide white head. Huge hoppy nose.....big time. Flavor was big, big hops.....great malt presence, but this one is all about the hops. Not boozy, but the alcohol isn’t hidden. It was pricey ($7 per 10oz glass) but I enjoyed it a bunch. bleeng (597), Spring near Beersel, Texas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 20, 2009 Bomber. Dark golden-brown and hazy. Head disappeared rapidly. Nice hoppy, malty, chocolate, caramel, sweet nose. Taste comes off very smooth and thick, with sweetness, sugar, and hop bite that is not overwhelming. Very bitter for such a sweet beer. Alcohol is very evident and gives this a nice kick. Reminds me of Avery 14. Delicious. HughConway (367), Washington, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 20, 2009 Bottle. Pours dark brown with tan head. Interesting hop aroma. Taste is bitter malt with complex after. Nice. snoot (277), Anaheim, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 19, 2009 Pours a very dark red, with a huge brown head. Citrus aroma, definitely some musty notes as well. Flavor is nicely balanced, it’s hoppy but there’s a backbone there. More than the sum of its parts... billism (42), Missouri City, Texas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 19, 2009 Pours a dark amber/ruby color. Darker than the Bastard. Thick tan head that diminishes within a few minutes to a thin skin. Hopy, piney, citrus aroma but can smell cozy malts, too. I even smell a faint scent of celery in there. Tastes of crazy amount of hops accompanied by some sweet malt flavor in there for a second then the hops comes in and runs it off. This is like a very hopy barley wine almost. Thick and chewy. Hop heads should love this one. I know the bottle says not to cellar this, but I might try it anyway. cathcacr (588), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 19, 2009 One of the most over-the-top offerings yet from Stone, and that’s saying quite a bit. I thought the IBU count would be ridiculous but only 90? Try to imagine something like the Arrogant Bastard but with more pronounced Barley Wine character. The aroma is that of a pungent Stone-like IPA. The appearance is that of the Bastard. The flavor seems to remind me of Founders Devil Dancer except that beer’s official IBU count is off the charts. Consistency is syrupy and sticky. radagast83 (1302), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 19, 2009 22oz bottle. Pours a dark amber red with a medium/large foamy off-white head. Aromas are extreme citrus and hops - dominating the beer. Flavor has a nice caramel component - keeping the beer from being extremely hoppy. Touches of spice and pine fill in the rest. It’s a well made Stone Anniversary beer.
