Big hoppy aroma of resin, dirty earthy tea leaf and grapefruit. Flavor is the same with some caramel and oak. Medium-heavy body is slightly watery so as to be dangerous, smoothly carbonated, hop-tingly and slightly warming.

This one pours dark burgundy with a lacy head. Mouthfeel is full of texture, yet not sticky. Hops are bold with flavor and aroma. Rich pine and tart citrus. Fruity alcohol provides a nice warmth. Malts are toasty, with just the right amount of toffee and caramel to cleave off the bitterness. Speaking of which, the lingering bitterness offers hints of coffee and chocolate. I love this stuff. Huge hop aroma with some sweetness. flavor is big, bitter, and there is a little malt. The alcohol is somewhat hidden. This is a big beer and another winner. Schroppfy (1813), Ohio, USA

I’m shocked! This is definitely a style that they do better than anyone; the flavors are solid and hold together pretty well, it’s drinkable for a big beer. Not all that lively shortly after the pour. But you know what? I just don’t really like the beer. Give me hops, sure, but give them to me in a different vehicle once in a while, or choose some different hops. I’m not trying to be mean here. I need a Smoked Porter to get me through my disappointment. biznizness (952), Mooresville, North Carolina, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 28, 2009 This beer pretty much kicks ass. I heard alot of different opinions about it, which made me curious. I’m definitely glad I tried it. Beautiful dark red with a huge thick light brown head. Awesome aroma of earthy hops and pine, with some malts mixed in there as well. Flavor has a great hop profile with a strong malt backbone. Quite sweet up front with some serious bitterness on the way down. Chewy full bodied texture. Palate would be perfect but it’s just slightly harsh, but nothing to really complain about. Strong and arrogant for sure. presario (3003), Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Dark, hoppy and fickin’ tasty. (I love trying to read my notes after a big tasting) Crit (2409), New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada
