Commercial Description:
The Stone 8th Anniversary Ale is, like all previous Stone Anniversary Ales so far, an adaptation of a previous Stone Brewing Co release. This year we set out to make a “Anniversary-ized” version of Lee’s Mild, a 3.8% abv limited release beer from 1999. For this beer we used some of the same malts that we had used in the Lee’s Mild, added more hops, less water (to bring the alcohol content up), and found a tasty balance of toasty/roastyness from the malt and a subtle (by Stone standards!) hop presence. To add further complexity, oak chips were employed to round out the character and give the beer a bit of vanilla/bourbon influence from the wood.

Taster at Stone’s new beer garden and bistro. Has a nice deep amber color with a thin almost nothing white head. Malty and hoppy aroma. It has a smooth hoppy taste with a mild aftertaste.

Supposedly this is a more alcoholic version of Lee’s Mild, which I’ve always wished I’d tried. Lots of alcohol. Some raisins and caramel notes. Thick, viscous.

22oz bottle. Pours a bold, reddish-brown appearance; off-white head retained at the edges. Sweet aroma, showing cotton candy, caramel, fruit and vanilla. Full, chewy mouthfeel: toffee and caramel, red fruits (cherries, especially), hints of vanilla and roasted malts and oak; the hops are well-integrated at this point, still bitter but balanced; minimal oxidation. Lengthy finish ending slightly dry: candy sugar, malts, and a hint of citrusy hops.

Very good beer...The 8th pours out a nice reddish brown color with a tiny off-white head. The aroma is heavy malt, some roasted/oak scents, and a hint of chocolate. Taste is smooth and full. Flavors are of sweet malts, caramel, raisins, and some hints of chocolate. Great complex taste.

Bottle. Pour is dark amber with a very small off-white head. Heavy sweet malts dominate the nose--like a light Barley Wine. Flavor is more roasty malts, some chocolate, alcohol, and like every Stone beer, some hops. Very drinkable. Had this about a 1 1/2 years ago and didnt enjoy it as much. Maybe my palate has changed (well it definitely has), but it probably is aging well too. Stone is still a favorite in my book. Make it available in NC. I will be the REP!!

A brownish/amber pour with almost no head. An aroma of roasted malt is dominate. A flavor of sweet maltiness and a warmth that surprises me from the 7.8%. A pleasant bitter finish. When I opened it and poured it the aroma reminded me of a Barley wine but the look didn’t. I’ve had this beer before and had this one in the frige for a while. I don’t remember liking it this well. I wish I had another. I enjoyed it very much.

Poured from a bomber reddish brown with next to no head, what little there was turned into lacing. Aroma was caramel malt, candied fruit and a slight hop presence. Flavor was sweet malts some bitter hops and talk about an alcohol finish.
