Pours mahagony with a foamy and rocky tan head, some retention, lined lacing. Aroma is milk chocolate, roasted caramel malt( cookie, biscuit), alcohol, yeast (dough), floral and pine hops, nutty. Chocolate, medium sweet caramel malt, moderate bitterness and biting, scorching alcohol and perfumey hop flavor, dry at the end. Medium to full bodied, dry and fizzy palate. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 27, 2006 I popped this one open with Tidiaguy the other day and it definitely had a coffee feel to it with a hint of cherries but a stronger raisin-like character. I feel the age made this one seem really balanced with a nice slight alcoholic kick and some smooth malty flavors. Its not like the uber-hoppy beers I usually associate with Stone but I appreciate its mellow qualities. puzzl (2621), New York, New York, USA

I always thought Mild sounded like a slimmed down barleywine (or the other way around), and this pretty much confirms it. If this were labeled a BW I don’t think anyone would be complaining. Aroma is musky and caramelly and deep, with nice hops, brown sugar, peanut butter, and very slight balsamic vinegar (the flavor, not the acidity). Flavor is similar, like an English Barleywine that still has a nice hop background, but not the brashness of an American BW. The pour doesn’t leave much head, and the palate is creamy and moist, though slightly metallic. Very drinkable. It seems this isn’t bottle-conditioned. Emil (6074), Copenhagen, Denmark
