Commercial Description:
The Stone 8th Anniversary Ale is, like all previous Stone Anniversary Ales so far, an adaptation of a previous Stone Brewing Co release. This year we set out to make a “Anniversary-ized” version of Lee’s Mild, a 3.8% abv limited release beer from 1999. For this beer we used some of the same malts that we had used in the Lee’s Mild, added more hops, less water (to bring the alcohol content up), and found a tasty balance of toasty/roastyness from the malt and a subtle (by Stone standards!) hop presence. To add further complexity, oak chips were employed to round out the character and give the beer a bit of vanilla/bourbon influence from the wood.

This one is inserting; has sort of a roller coaster effect. Reddish brown with a nicely retaining head. Only a light hop aroma. Fist taste is just a touch of sweetness and hop resin, complexity quickly develops on to the back where the bitterness catalizes and explosion of flavors, chocolate milk, dark fruits, soaked in rich maltiness. Sort of like arrogant bastards gentrified cousin. Bravo.

Slight fruitiness(cherries, figs) Bitter and hoppy---(description says subtle hop presence by stone standards.) I still think lots of hops. Thanks Beerslayer.

Dark amber color with a thin head. A malty aroma with a lightly bitter flavor but leaves you with an aftertaste similar to a chocolate.

This pours a deep ruby color. Tastes smooth and malty with plentiful hops and hints of wood.

An amazing wonderful complex full aroma, all kinds of things, malt, berry raisin, tobacco, bourbon, first taste is fine with a sweet malt dark red wine taste, but it seems to thin out and dry out as it goes along. A beer that became less impressive as I reached the bottom of he glass. Its worthwhile for tha aroma, the first couple tastes and its color

Beautiful mahagony color, medium light brown, frothy head. Medium malt, raisons, plum and slightly rum nose. Intense maltiness in the taste, bread dough, molasses with a smoked finish. Thin bodied. Nice wooden flavor intervalling. As it warms up the alcohol gets more intense but also hoppiness comes through.

Toffee nose, hops and caramel. Clear deep brown color and a rocky biege head. Sugary sweet malt with tastes of syrup, figs, raisins, and nuts. Dry oaky end followed by a sharp grassy tinge after the swallow. Falls between styles, but reminds me somehow of Andechser double bock. Well balanced and works overall. I wanted more hops and this beer could have benefited from something to counter the sweetness.

Pours deep amber with a thin off-white head. Average malty hoppy smell, nice but not impressive. Tastes neat sweet and malty with a nice bitter aftertaste. I liked this the more I drank it.
