Deep chestnut red, thin off white head and gentle pleasant condition. Big initial blast of chocolate aromas, then assertive peppery hops kick in only to subside once more and allow the chocolate back along with some gentle roastiness. Fruity chocolate dominant in the mouth with a gentle citric edge and a good tingle of hop bitterness. Dry and chocolatey in the finish with lingering fruity berry notes and a smoky retronasal kick of alcohol. Got a little cloying towards the end of the bottle.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 4, 2005 Bottle. Poured a medium sized ivory head that was mostly lasting, fair lacing, fine-large sized bubbles, carbonated, and a reddish brown hue. Aroma was malty, chocolate, hops, and sweet. Flavor was lightly bitter, malty, some chocolate, roasty, and vinuous. Tingly mouthfeel. MillStreetMan (152), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Feb 27, 2005 This beer was a bit of a disappointment. It looked and smelled irresistable but was let down a bit by the flavour and even more by the aftertaste, which verged on being downright unpleasant. Still, it poured a beautiful dark brown that looked like burnt caramel, and the scent did not dissuade me from this conclusion. It has a good blend of flavours - hops, fruit, carmel - but its aftertaste is pretty harsh. It’s extremely bitter and perfumy. ukoolaid (572), Amherst, Massachusetts, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Feb 25, 2005 Bottle. Color is a dark amber with hints of red. Big frothy tan head. Aroma is very strong with alcohol malt and dark fruits, raison, fig. Taste has roast caramel malts with raison. Finish is smooth and a little oaky. Mouthfeel is a tad watery, which keeps it from being truely great. Even so, it’s very good. jbak (110), Torrington, Connecticut, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Feb 24, 2005 Wow, far from the norm for Stone, other than the fact that it is over-the-top. This beer is quite malty, creamy and toasty. The Oak chips slap you in the face. Aftertaste is next to nothing. Doesn’t taste 7.8% ABV. frylock (1024), Buffalo, New York, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 19, 2005 Toasty oak aroma with a hint of cherries. Bright redish brown color with a medium tan head. Toasty malts, light sweetness, a hint of chocolate. Fairly dry oaky finish. Not bad. zach8270 (2103), Henrietta, New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 18, 2005 Updated: Dec 6, 2008[22 oz. bomber] Pours a cloudy and deep murky copper color with a thick tan head and lots of carbonation. Very rich and smoky aroma of fruits, some vanilla and lots of smoked oak chips. Flavor is very much the same, beginning with a strong smoke taste and giving way to a complex flavor of fruits mixed with sweetness and some malt. Very creamy mouthfeel and a light fruity aftertaste.
