Commercial Description:
The Stone 8th Anniversary Ale is, like all previous Stone Anniversary Ales so far, an adaptation of a previous Stone Brewing Co release. This year we set out to make a “Anniversary-ized” version of Lee’s Mild, a 3.8% abv limited release beer from 1999. For this beer we used some of the same malts that we had used in the Lee’s Mild, added more hops, less water (to bring the alcohol content up), and found a tasty balance of toasty/roastyness from the malt and a subtle (by Stone standards!) hop presence. To add further complexity, oak chips were employed to round out the character and give the beer a bit of vanilla/bourbon influence from the wood.

Stone Brewing makes some serious beers. Pours a very nice amber color which looks like an English Barley Wine. This beer reminds me more of that then an American Strong Ale. It is a very nice example of it. If this an the Arrogant Bastard are both American Strongs then they are very different from one another. This one has a nice complexity with an aroma of fruits, vanilla, hops and oak. The taste is quite similar to the Ale Smith Old Numskull. The taste here is weaked but still quite effective. The aftertaste has a nice fruitiness to it. Stone Brewing has done it again.

Dark brown color with ruby tones and a small white head. Aroma is malty, with a big alcohol presence, vanilla tones, and hints of cherry, fig, and dark fruits. Taste is powerful, lots of malt, big alcohol presence, tones of fig, cherry and vanilla. Lightly roasted with a toasty character. FInishes fairly bitter with a rich bourbon flavor.

Bottle: Poured a deep amber color ale with a medium head with standard retention. Aroma consists of strong malt and lots of hops. Taste is quite bitter but well supported by the malt. I very much enjoyed this typical west coast beer. Now, I’m curious to try some other Stone Anniversary beer.

pours a dark brown with a light tan head. aroma is sweet and malty and a little roasty. flavor reminds me of a porter, with a nice roasty taste. the hops appear in the finish, but not too bitter. good mouthfeel too.

my first in the series of their anniversary beer, and certainly not the last. pours a medium brown color with a thick tan head that goes until the end of it. beer is rich and creamy in texture as well as flavor. slight coffee smell and flavor with a little toffee mixed in. this is almost like a porter, but that isnt a bad thing of course. awesome beer.

Ohh this is good. Reddish color with a tan head. I smell some spice tones, pumpkin, along with the floral hops. Nice malty taste includes hops in the palate, a powerful yet not quite overdone quantity of hops. Highly recommended for lovers of Strong Ales, IPAs, etc.

Croikey, this is intense. Different from the usual fare, but in a good way. Maltiness and hops not so well balanced in this, but it sure does have a unique taste. Can’t remember much else because I was drunk half way through finishing the bottle..
