Commercial Description:
The Stone 8th Anniversary Ale is, like all previous Stone Anniversary Ales so far, an adaptation of a previous Stone Brewing Co release. This year we set out to make a “Anniversary-ized” version of Lee’s Mild, a 3.8% abv limited release beer from 1999. For this beer we used some of the same malts that we had used in the Lee’s Mild, added more hops, less water (to bring the alcohol content up), and found a tasty balance of toasty/roastyness from the malt and a subtle (by Stone standards!) hop presence. To add further complexity, oak chips were employed to round out the character and give the beer a bit of vanilla/bourbon influence from the wood.

Pours a nice mahogony with a thin, light tan head. Nose is hoppy with a little malt. Strong in taste, with hops, prune, wood, roasted malt and a coffee finish. Somewhat oily mouthfeel. Quite good overall.

bottle at dougshoemaker’s, amber with red tones, smells fruity - citrus, no head or lacing, like a stout but a little thinner

Chocolate and malt nose, clear ruby, tiny toffee head, pretty lace. Typical west coast hop taste, some chocolate notes and a malt backbone. Medium/full bodied, bitter. A bold offering. I’m not sure which of my guests of Dec.11/04 gathering gifted me with this, but Thank You very much!

Looks quite like a mild, with a rudy color and a moderate light tan head. Toasted dry grain aromas with just a hint of floral hops and coffee. A good smellin brew, plain and simple. A bold brown flavor. Start is quite sweet with a mild chocolate taste. It dries out in the middle with toasted nuts and and a hint of fruit. Finish is quite bitter with a sharp bite. This one loses it in the finish. Perhaps some time will help settle the bitterness. Late finish of cask wood and roasted malts. I like the concept, but just a touch too much. But than again, shouldn’t I expect this from Stone’s. Congrats on 8 years and keep putting out the great brews. Thanks Vac for getting this one to me.

Bottle. deep mahogony color with a rich tan head that lasted and laced well. Vanilla, caramel, maple aroma. Sweet roasted malt with very round toasted peat-like flavors, hops though light give a good round finish.

Pours an light brown, two-finger head, fades slowly and leaves a good lace. Medium carbonation and medium bodied. Deep, rich amber color. Malty nose. Starts with a light sweetness and finishes smooth with just a hint of hoppiness. A very good brown. $6.00 for a 22oz bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, MA.

Pours a dark brown you cannot see light through, with a foamy tan colored head. Aroma is malt and coffee and slightly nutty. Flavor is sweet with some chocolate and graham cracker. I also taste the vanilla/bourbon hints from the description. Slightly nutty medium bitter finish. Tasted better as it warmed up a bit. I like it although sometimes it might seem a bit too sweet.

Dark golddn/amber colour with a roasted nut aroma. Some notes of chocolate in the flavour and lots of toasted nuts, quite woody. A solid, good beer, but not great.
