Commercial Description:
The Stone 8th Anniversary Ale is, like all previous Stone Anniversary Ales so far, an adaptation of a previous Stone Brewing Co release. This year we set out to make a “Anniversary-ized” version of Lee’s Mild, a 3.8% abv limited release beer from 1999. For this beer we used some of the same malts that we had used in the Lee’s Mild, added more hops, less water (to bring the alcohol content up), and found a tasty balance of toasty/roastyness from the malt and a subtle (by Stone standards!) hop presence. To add further complexity, oak chips were employed to round out the character and give the beer a bit of vanilla/bourbon influence from the wood.

(22oz bottle) Picked this up at Bessetts in Canton, NY. Pours a thin white head and a deep mahogany body. The nose was filled with the aroma of roasted malt. The flavour was very telling with a more encompassing level of tastes - there was grapes, port wine and strong brown sugar. Not an everyday beer but well worth the sampling...

Dark, clear caramel color with a short-lasting, creamy head. Aroma is of coffee and smoke. Flavor is excellent. Lighter taste than color would indicate, but packed full of malted goodness. Hops are still there, don’t worry, but not over the top as I’ve encountered with Stone. Much more drinkable than sippable. Slight alcohol in the middle with a smooth finish.

Deep clear crimson and brown, thin yet creamy off white head. Nice aroma of caramel, roasted nuts, milk chocolate, light coffee, with the very slightest hint of vanilla and toasted oak. Well balanced, malty, and not overly hopped as I counted on. However, still a nice earthy hop addition on the backside with dark fruit, coffee, and maple candy having the underlying tone here. Full bodied, prickly carbonation, warming, bitter-sweet finish. Nice change-up. It doesn’t always have to be about the hops......

Deep amber in color with a little head that seems to stay with it. Roasted malt in aroma. Taste is very light vanilla with roasted flavors. Very good taste, look and aroma.

Rich, dark ruby colour with small white crown on top. Soft, subtle but hop accented aroma that is followed by sweet malts, dried plums and cherry. Quiet interesting combination. Very nice soft , medium bodied ale . Dominant hops character shown on front , malts and alcohol follows the act Pleasant and warming as you drink. Maybe a bit simplistic but works well.

This turned up at a local grocer this week. Nice simple presentation in the screen printed bomber. An ok beer to look atdeep brown with a small bubbly tan head, that goes fast leaving minimal lacing. Nice strong caramel malt aroma, hops in back. Very unusual taste to this one..the caramel malts are first then a great Stone hopiness invades..but during the invasion chocolate and coffee like flavours push through, lingering spicy bitterness..odd but lovelly. Exciting mouthfeel, Unusual beer not sure of the style, but what the heck its Stone and its good stuff.

Pleasantly surprised by this brew...maybe it’s because I drank it with a good friend. Medium redish brown and a wonderful aroma and impressive flavor of creamy roasted coffee. This is an American Strong Ale? Maybe that’s why I was thrown off...tastes like brown ale...Good times, good brew!
