jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA Apr 9, 2006 From a 22oz. brown bomber bottle with a blurb about the wheat ale on the back label and a September 2005 bottling date on the front label. Made a good
appearance, poured a chill hazy orange hued golden with a fluffy, bubbly topped white head that slowly settled into a semi-clingy, thin fluffy lacing, good carbonation. Had a floral and pear fruity nose with a earthy, tart wheat malt and a buttery yeastiness. A smooth, creamy but crisp and bitter medium bodied mouth feel, good drinkability. Spicy and peppery with a little fruity hoppiness upfront, good and bitter, tart and earthy from the wheat malt, the distinctive Stone buttery yeastiness and a bitter and tart earthy finish. The alcohol level is well masked by the hops and wheat malt.
A very interesting take on a wheat ale, I enjoyed the bitterness and earthy flavors, a winner in my opinion. 2beerguys (299), North Shore, Massachusetts, USA Apr 8, 2006 Again here with a Stone beer, they don’t seem to care that you know ahead of time that their brews are going to hit you where it counts. The alcohol level, although not alarmingly high, is not masked at all, letting us know ahead of time what we were in for. It pours a golden color with a frothy, off-white head. Good lacing and a mostly diminishing head, but some remains through the finish. Hazy body. Moderate hop presence with flower and grass notes, as well as hints of peach and melon. At first lightly sweet, it finishes with a moderately bitter assault. Medium feel on the mouth with a dry and watery texture, there is moderate alcohol presence left behind. NachlamSie (1630), Tennessee, USA Apr 6, 2006 bottle. Well, the Anniversary ale from Stone this year is pretty light in color. It’s a gold hue which is just slightly cloudy and supports a frothy, white head. Plenty of sweet lemons and foresty hops are evident in the aroma along with a bit of the wheat in a mild, bready form. The body is rather dense of lemon zest flavor and caramel sweetness which balances quite biting piny hops. It’s piercing on the first few sips, but quickly becomes progressively more palatable. Green tea and other grassy flavors become apparent. This has got to be my 2nd favorite wheat behind 3 Floyd’s. dolemike1 (1116), Jeannette, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 2, 2006 Really didnt like this one, poured a pee yellow color, very light aroma, pine and wheat, flavor is similar, moderately hoppy/piney flavor mixed with certain characteristics of what tastes like an american style wheat beer. Not the best effort RealAle (12), USA Mar 30, 2006 I enjoyed this well hopped up Stone ale on tap. I did’nt realize it was a wheat with the clear appearance. It was smooth and very drinkable for a beer of this caliber. Drink it up if you get the chance! MrManning (1634), London, Ontario, Canada Mar 29, 2006 Bottoe courtesy of , and thanks to Immy! A slight hazy yellow pour pours with a good bleached white froth. Good lacing. Pretty straight forward hop profile in the nose, with some perfume and citrus fruits. A hoppy bread crust flavour is matched well with a mild citrus bitterness. Good pure hop leaf finish, with lots of bitterness lingering.Would do well on the patio in summer. Not complex, but still very enjoyable. A pleasure to try. Thanks so much Tim! tsarman (794), Northern, New Jersey, USA Mar 25, 2006 A wheat beer that was stoned (i.e. hopped to shit). A decent brew that seems like an experiment. Had a similar hoppy flavor as their other brews. Jine (889), Nutley, New Jersey, USA Mar 24, 2006 2.22.06 Tap at Andy’s for Stone Promo Night.
