Commercial Description:
As has been a tradition, we have “Anniversary-ized” a recipe from our history by cranking it up, making it stronger and more assertive. With this year’s Anniversary we decided to look back at a wheat beer that we released a couple of Spring/Summers a few years ago: Stone Heat Seeking Wheat. While it was a plenty tasty beer, we ultimately decided that it wasn’t that reflective of what Stone was all about, and we unceremoniously dropped it from our lineup. For the Stone 9th Anniversary Ale, we carried some of the characteristics from the Stone Heat Seeking Wheat --- clear, not hazy; hoppy, not yeasty; combining a delicious hop bitterness and wheat tartness --- and made some…well…adjustments.

Slightly smeared medium golden yellow color with a medium white cap of froth that breaks down into a landscape of bubbled rockyness. Big sheet of lace coats all around the glass. This looks damn nice. Hmmm...not a typical waft from Stone, a bit restrained here with a melony citrus of orange and lemon and some light wheaty snap behind it. Taste is broad and withstanding in a short bittering but long oily hoppyness. Quite exquisite really. It seems quick at first but begins to lay the groundwork for a full-on citrusy construction on your palatable property. Orangey fluff, peels, piths, and pulp skip quickly into a short entrance of the wheat malt that seems very high rendered in flour, dryness, and partially parched in chalkyness. Thankfully and craftly, that area is just as brief as any other in this brigade of quickly happening nuances. Wow! The oily stuff, as mentioned above, begins to float forward in the finishing areas after every sip. So danty, yet obvious. Citrusy oils, hop squeezed bite, and peel-like girth, substain for a long duration of hinting grasses, more so hinting citrus pith, and high grain malt. Wonderfully complex hop profile along its length; which seems short at first, but alas, it grows and grows, from sip to sip. Somehow drying, yet oily and pungent. Sublime. Feel is about medium, if not all together a slight lightish; somewhat. But man does it grow on ya quickly. Yeah, quickly as its very own hoppy characteristics and dryly set base of citric hops and malting. What a strangely awesome beer? Like Clint Eastwood, it’s every way but loose. Tightly set in hops with drying parchness, hop citrusy tricks, and a fairly calm bitterness that just suits its overall ride through finishville. I could drink this for a good long while. Everything about it screams...have fun, enjoy some hops, and get pummeled by our strategicly placed alcoholic punch. Uff-da, Stone knows me too well. Fine stuff!

Bomber. Poured a clear medium-golden with a massive, rocky white head. Thorough lacing followed it down. Grapefruit and sticky caramel pounded the nose, and were followed up by tart wheat, grass and lemon zest. Tart, lemony wheat found the tip of the tongue... somewhat heavy caramel base for the Pac NW hoppage in the rest of the drink. Body was significantly less assertive than the aroma led on... refreshing, though. Very enjoyable overall.

"Poured a hazy, yellow orange color with a massive head which left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma was of sweet and citrus. Tasted very much like a doubleipa. Overall very nice, just wouldn’t call it a strong ale."

Bomber thanks to Raindog for this one.Nose is gig on the hops but also get a little bit of peachy-ness.Under tones of grass. This is very refreshing, not unlike a spritzer of some kind,in a beer sort odf way.

Thanks to miver for this one. I came home one day and he left 2 on my door step. Pours a clean orange color body with a fluffy brige head. The aroma is big citrus with some yeasty undertones. Flavor is a very well balanced blend of grapefruits, oranges, pineapple, mild wheat, slightly toasted malts, and belgianesque yeast. Incredibly easy to drink. I finished off the bomber in no time w/o realizing. Very interesting, and tasty brew. Doesn’t strike me as one that’ll benefit much from aging.

22oz bottle. Glowing golden orange color, white- tan head with lacing. Aroma starts out spicy and bready, fresh and spring-like with some juicy hops coming on midway through the sip.

Call this an American wheat with IPA tendancies along with a Belgian Strong twist. Clearly out side the box, which is what Stone is all about and what I enjoy.
