Commercial Description:
As has been a tradition, we have “Anniversary-ized” a recipe from our history by cranking it up, making it stronger and more assertive. With this year’s Anniversary we decided to look back at a wheat beer that we released a couple of Spring/Summers a few years ago: Stone Heat Seeking Wheat. While it was a plenty tasty beer, we ultimately decided that it wasn’t that reflective of what Stone was all about, and we unceremoniously dropped it from our lineup. For the Stone 9th Anniversary Ale, we carried some of the characteristics from the Stone Heat Seeking Wheat --- clear, not hazy; hoppy, not yeasty; combining a delicious hop bitterness and wheat tartness --- and made some…well…adjustments.

Poured a still clear amber with a large creamy white head that refused to dissipate. Aroma of sharp piney hops, candy, grass. Taste is sharp hops, with grass and a touch of grapefruit with a long bitter finish. Clean though somewhat one-dimensional. However, it is crisp, bold and refreshing, which I think was just what Stone was going for with this one. I liked it.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy orange gold with a tiny white head that quickly became a ring around the rim of my glass. Smells very hoppy, floral, like grapefruit. Tastes very bitter and tart. It lingers and really masks the other flavors that the beer might have.

22 oz Bomber - poured a cloudy Golden color with hints of orange. The white head disapates quickly. Aromas of astringent grapefruit, sticky pine sap and alcohol. Flavor was very hoppy with an aggressive bitterness, very astringent! I was very dissapointed with this beer! Far too hoppy and astringent, masking all other nuances, except for the alcohol which comes to the front more often than I like.

alright, well i’m not a wheat beer fan, so my ratings are a spot low. for its kind, this isn’t a bad beer. beers nearing 8% usually aren’t this smooth, though while the alcohol is easy-going, the bitterness has a bit of bite.

Really a dissapointment. A refreshing aroma and a good clean and crisp palate, but there is really something very off about the flavor. Tastes like pine, or more accurately pine-sol. Way too strong for waht it is, i would stay on the safe side with their mainstays.

(Bottle) Pours a lightly hazy golden body with a moderate yellowish beige head. Aroma of grapefruit, orange, florals, and a hint of pine. Flavor of breadiness and citrus. Bitter finish.

Pour and aroma are great. Beautiful coloration, orange-ish gold, with effervescent carbonation. Head is substantial, foamy and a dingy cream color. Aroma is heavy of peach, honey, wheat-grain and hops. Peachy fruit is noted in taste as is a bit of an alcoholic fire that pairs nicely with slight sourness of wheat. Crisp finish.

poured this one last night. orange golden hazey hue. white tight head that flourished. full of pine evergreen needles , floral and resiny notes tingle the nose. full bodied explosion hit the tongue and palate, big upfront boldness of crisp hops, vanilla, and alcohol warmth. sweet false back bone that is subtly different then what you would expect. slight yeast push that envelopes the flavor throughout clinging to bite or tang at the end. much better then most of the rates suggest...imo.
