Commercial Description:
As has been a tradition, we have “Anniversary-ized” a recipe from our history by cranking it up, making it stronger and more assertive. With this year’s Anniversary we decided to look back at a wheat beer that we released a couple of Spring/Summers a few years ago: Stone Heat Seeking Wheat. While it was a plenty tasty beer, we ultimately decided that it wasn’t that reflective of what Stone was all about, and we unceremoniously dropped it from our lineup. For the Stone 9th Anniversary Ale, we carried some of the characteristics from the Stone Heat Seeking Wheat --- clear, not hazy; hoppy, not yeasty; combining a delicious hop bitterness and wheat tartness --- and made some…well…adjustments.

22 ounce bottle. Pours Yellow with some orange highlights capped with a white frothy head. Huge hop aroma. Tons of clean hop bitterness with a soft wheat flavor. A touch astrigant with a long finish. Other than some wheat character, I’m not sure how this is much differant than the IPA.

Pretty interesting effort to soup up the wheat with a strong hop infusion, a touch of ruination as it were. Nice look and aroma, very quaffable. Fine and mellow but not too memorable by Stone’s standards.

Big piney hop aroma, nice. Small, bubbley head. Orange body. Big malty and wheaty taste. Bitter, but certainly done as the finer elements of the beer are overpowered. Bitterness lasts too long. Nice malty, oily body though.

The Dan Journal #133. Tasted 11/8/07. 22oz bomber. Golden murky with a honey tint. Tight white head. Bright citrus nose. Sugary sweet. Citrus and sugary caramel. Big burn. Sticky and delicious.

Bottle. Clear amber-bronze body w/ sparse carbonation and a thin white head. Candied orange, caramel and a touch of spice (nutmeg) in the soft-yet-inviting aroma. The hops really come out in the flavor. The very start exhibits biscuit malt and lightly estery yeast but that quickly moves to sharp, catty pine/orange peel hops with a smooter, sweeter orange essence carrying into the finish. That biscuit element is present throughout. The alcohol says hello after settling in your belly but it’s a clean sort of hello - welcome home! Great beer. There’s a good mix in the malt profile (the wheat I assume) and the hops are deliciously sharp and resinous.

Big, fruity aroma. Hazy dark gold in color with a huge head! I used a tulip glass which really seemed to blow up the head, but I give credit mostly to the beer itself. Clumps of carbonation rise from the bottom like Alka Seltzer. Whispy lace. Large Belgian-like bubble with beautiful lace. Initial mouthfeel is highly alcoholic. This brew does not hide the 7.8% at all. Pepper, saffron. Very nice flavor. Seems a little bit like the alcohol was thrown at the beer to make it more impressive, but I couldn’t detect any flaws that were trying to be hidden. Could have been smoother but as it warms this really becomes delicious. Really excellent. Thanks, tennisjoel, for bringing this back with you from San Fran.

pours out orange color. hoppy smelling with grassy notes in the smell. taste is an offensive hop goodness that is in most stone brews. this one is a really good beer that reminds me of something between stone ruination and stone ipa. an awesome beer, that proves this is certainly a world class brewery.

Medium sized, large bubbled, light tan head, moderate retention, minimal spotty laceing. Clear copper/orange color. Nose is light and flowery, light fruit, peaches and citrus, a touch piney. Body is light/medium, good carbonation with a lightly oily palate. Delicate juicey hop flavors, flowery, spicey and fruity. Malt flavors are subdued, spicey wheat, caramel showing underneath all the hoppiness, touch yeasty, light bubblegum notes to boot. Finish is lightly sweet, floral and fruity. Hello alcyhol! An easy quaff. Thanks Odeed!
