Commercial Description:
As has been a tradition, we have “Anniversary-ized” a recipe from our history by cranking it up, making it stronger and more assertive. With this year’s Anniversary we decided to look back at a wheat beer that we released a couple of Spring/Summers a few years ago: Stone Heat Seeking Wheat. While it was a plenty tasty beer, we ultimately decided that it wasn’t that reflective of what Stone was all about, and we unceremoniously dropped it from our lineup. For the Stone 9th Anniversary Ale, we carried some of the characteristics from the Stone Heat Seeking Wheat --- clear, not hazy; hoppy, not yeasty; combining a delicious hop bitterness and wheat tartness --- and made some…well…adjustments.

Pours a cloudy orange with a thin dissapating head.Grains and malt shooting thru.Has nice flavor but the finish gets clumped up on the back of your throat, otherwise pretty damn good.

Clear light amber body. Frothy off-whtie head; sticky lacing. Aroma has Flavor has some IPA caramelly malt, some bittering hop edge, sweet spicy yeast and flowers give it a very light belgian feel. Perfumed honey wheat sweetness. Very rounded, crisp, good beer.

Had this beer on 4/30/2006. Aroma is light with only faint hints of hops to it. Color is a bright, lightly hazy gold with very good carbonation and a nice tight head. Taste is light, fresh and bitter. Starting with a medium body it goes down with a crisp feel. Finish comes out of this crisp feel with a full sharp bitterness and just a faint maltyness. Overall I think its good although it is very bitter its a drinkable and well balanced beer.

bottle from spinkle methinks....pours a clear bubbly orange brown with a moderate creamy white head.... aromas of grassy light earthy hops and sweet sugary malt..... flavors start along the malt front and then quickly shifs to some grassy bitterness which lingers on well through the finish. mouthfeel is nice and the mild carbonation level works pretty well with this beer.

Lemon candy, sugar, bitter, hoppy, soapy nose. Also some alcohol coming through. Hazy off golden color. Medium head that lasts. Really bitter with a golden hops presence. Notes of orange peel and citrus. Cookie and malt flavors balance things out.

Sept 2005 bottle (obviously because this is their anniversary) tasted same day as this review. Aroma of sweet malt, spices, alcohol, and that aroma that every other stone has (you know what I mean). Medium to dark golden color with off-white creamy head. Flavor is fruity with caramel, spices, piney hops, and a bit of an alcohol finish. Good beer, but honestly not that great for a stone.

Bottle at the “Drink for Charity” event at Rattle & Hum thanks to Mike who brought a vertical from 2nd to 12th. Pours a hazy apricot color with a thin white head. Lots of plums, prunes, and a bit of caramel. Nice soft carbonation on here, but it doesn’t mask the oxidization. Finishes with a light bitterness.

22oz. bomber: I found this in the back of the fridge, and was surprised that I hadn’t rated it yet. It pours an almost clear, darker golden color. Maybe a twinge of orange in it. The aroma is very good. A big shot of hops, like you would expect from Stone. Mainly grapefruit and pine, but also some grassy notes. The taste was solid. A fine malt body behind the beer, although perhaps a bit more delicate (for lack of a better description) than most of their other brews. Decent balance to the hops. I could drink a few more of these.
