Commercial Description:
As has been a tradition, we have “Anniversary-ized” a recipe from our history by cranking it up, making it stronger and more assertive. With this year’s Anniversary we decided to look back at a wheat beer that we released a couple of Spring/Summers a few years ago: Stone Heat Seeking Wheat. While it was a plenty tasty beer, we ultimately decided that it wasn’t that reflective of what Stone was all about, and we unceremoniously dropped it from our lineup. For the Stone 9th Anniversary Ale, we carried some of the characteristics from the Stone Heat Seeking Wheat --- clear, not hazy; hoppy, not yeasty; combining a delicious hop bitterness and wheat tartness --- and made some…well…adjustments.

(bottle) Orange gold, a bit hazy, with large fluffy cream head. Floral hops aroma. Flavor is floral/pine hops with some sweetness, yeast and fruit. The love child of an agressive imperial IPA and a wheat beer.

Super carbonated hazy blond with a mountain of a head. Sweet light crystal malt aroma with some resinous hops. Prominent alcohol upfront. Big sweet malt flavor with some hops. Doesn’t come together too great.

Bottle. Pours a clear golden, yellow with a small white head. The aroma was a little hop but definitely a strong malt backbone. In the flavour the hops really take over. This beer straddles the line between Belgian and American fairly well. The blunt alcohol flavour did kill it a little for me.

Light orange color with a huge beige head. Strong aroma of citrus hops and grapefruit. Flavor is tangy and tart, with plenty of citrus hops and some wheat.

Bottle at the Brickskeller in DC on January 11th, 2008. Pours a clear orange/gold with a thick head. Aroma is a mild hop and malt aroma. Flavor is banana, spices. Slight oxidation (or what I felt may have been) but not enough to be of any real concern to me. Not as good as the 11th, but a solid brew from Stone.

Clear amber body with a very creamy white head; Big nose but there is quite a bit of metal in it, lots of soapy hoppy aromas as well; Huge soft carbonation, soft texture a little thin though, lots of bitterness a little sweetness as well; Quite long finish starting with lots of alcohol turning dry bitter then sweet, pine and soap aromas. The only not perfectly balanced Stone brew I have had.

Beer pours an attractive apricoat color with a well retained off white colored head. Aroma is delightfully hoppy with a bit of spiciness. Flavor is unique. The initial, enjoyable hop bitterness is followed by a quirky, strong bubblegum flavor that seems a bit over done. There is an enjoyable spiciness that is overwhemed by the bubblegum flavor. Good beer, just not up to the standard Stone set with its 6th and 7th Anniversary beers.
