Commercial Description:
As has been a tradition, we have “Anniversary-ized” a recipe from our history by cranking it up, making it stronger and more assertive. With this year’s Anniversary we decided to look back at a wheat beer that we released a couple of Spring/Summers a few years ago: Stone Heat Seeking Wheat. While it was a plenty tasty beer, we ultimately decided that it wasn’t that reflective of what Stone was all about, and we unceremoniously dropped it from our lineup. For the Stone 9th Anniversary Ale, we carried some of the characteristics from the Stone Heat Seeking Wheat --- clear, not hazy; hoppy, not yeasty; combining a delicious hop bitterness and wheat tartness --- and made some…well…adjustments.

Decent brew but I really think Stone should try and do more then hop the hell out of beers. Light copper colored brew with a big hop nose. Leans more toward the fruity hop flavors. Abv is well masked.

Excellent beer this is. Nicely hopped, much like an IPA. Had the most pleasant creamy mouthfeel, almost like dreadnaught, but not quite as smooth and creamy.

Tap. This is like the Gumballhead but with more strength. Poured golden with a nice white head. Nice lacing. Smell was like an IPA with citrus, graitfruit and caramel. Good taste with citrus, graitfruit and wheat. There is a bit of alcohol on the palate but it is hidden well. The flavors need to mature and then this will be a really nice beer.

Bottle courtesy of Miketd. Thanks Mike! Pours a cloudy amber color with cream colored head. The head is pretty thick on this and coats the glass as I drink it. I didn’t know what the style of this was. This was a bit of a surprise. When I smelled it I got pine, citrus, and grassy notes. Flavor was sharp orange, pepper, pine resins, and a slight sweetness. I asked Mike if this was a double IPA and he told me it was a strong ale. Could have fooled me. And I was! It was that hoppy. Overall a very pleasant experience. I’d like to know how they brewed a beer that stayed hoppy for so long. Good stuff.

22 oz. bottle from September 2005. A clear golden honey pour with a smallish light-tan head that leaves lots of lace. The aroma is almost equal parts wheaty and hoppy. Quite floral and tangy. I smell lots of oranges, strawberries, bananas and lemons. A whiff of alcohol is apparent when I reach the bottom of the glass. Very perfumed too. Tastes like an APA crossed with a strong American wheat. There’s a wheaty dryness to this medium-bodied beer. Just light enough to still be refreshing. Remarkably fresh and herbaceous. Tart and fruity with a peppery and spicy finish. I really like this one. VERY tasty.

[22 oz. bottle] This is an excellent beer. Pours a clear orange/copper color with a thick head that leaves plenty of lacing. This has a great balance of hops, citrus and sweet malts. I really enjoy the carbonation and smooth mouthfeel. I’m going to try to scoop a few more of these up for later on. Overall, an excellent offering from Stone.

On tap from the Stone 9th ann. extravaganza. Straw color with lots of foam and lace. Crisp hop and citrus flavors with a slightly sweet clean finish. Really a good brew.

Thanks to Irishboy for this one. pours a very hazy orange with a nice frothy head and thick sticky lacing. I got a big pineapple aroma and flavor along with some grapefruit and pine. A wonderful IPA. Thanks again Irishboy.
