Commercial Description:
As has been a tradition, we have “Anniversary-ized” a recipe from our history by cranking it up, making it stronger and more assertive. With this year’s Anniversary we decided to look back at a wheat beer that we released a couple of Spring/Summers a few years ago: Stone Heat Seeking Wheat. While it was a plenty tasty beer, we ultimately decided that it wasn’t that reflective of what Stone was all about, and we unceremoniously dropped it from our lineup. For the Stone 9th Anniversary Ale, we carried some of the characteristics from the Stone Heat Seeking Wheat --- clear, not hazy; hoppy, not yeasty; combining a delicious hop bitterness and wheat tartness --- and made some…well…adjustments.

22oz bomber purchased at Windy City Liquor in El Cajon. Had when it first came out and my palate was not developed and didn’t like it. Shared with my pal David. Pours yellow orange with a stable puffy 2 finger head, off white in color. Nose is light and fresh with a bit of hops not as much as I expected. Taste is hoppy and surprsingly light and not very bitter. Has a full mouth feel though. Good beer overall. Not as good as 10 by any means.

Tasting at mcbackus 10/19. Very glad to have tried this. Amber pour, medium mosty white head. I smell some yeast, fruit, and some juicy hops. Flavor is very smooth with a good balance of malts and hops. Wheat makes this creamy and nice. Good beer.

Thin golden orange under a thick light bubble head. Good pale ale hop aroma. Light body. Nicely hopped. Almost champagne-like mixed with an IPA. Better than an under-malted IPA but as an over-hopped wheat it isn’t as nice as a good IPA. Kind of a mixed style.

I thought I was drinking a simple, but good, pale ale. There is not much to this light orange beer besides the hops in the aroma and the bitter hops in the flavor. The 8th was better.

Bottle. Sweet peach/apricot/cherry and hops aroma. Golden orange color with small head. Sweet apricot and bubblegum flavor initially fading into a strong bitter hops finish. Alcohol content apparent but masked by the hops.

Bottle. Amber beer with a nice off-white head. Citrus hop aroma - dry hopped with Cascade? There’s a bit of spiciness to the flavor, more citrus hops, and some sweetness backing it all up. Some fruitiness (pears and others) to go with a bit of graininess. Wheat not really present, and there’s some alcohol presence. I think the wheat clashes and leads to grain astringency, and just a strange finish that I can’t put my finger on. It’s like playdough meets grains of paradise. I’ll skip it for another of their IPAs.

Pours a hazy orange colo with a thin white head. Good aroma and flavor of citrusy hops with caramel malt and a bitter finish. The body is light and liquorous with soft carbonation.

On tap. Pours with a clearish golden body with hardly any head. Aroma is a bit of hops and a little bit of wheat. Taste is of ripe peaches and light hops, and possibly some mint. Lightly fizzy on the mouth and a bit on the dry side of things.
