Commercial Description:
As has been a tradition, we have “Anniversary-ized” a recipe from our history by cranking it up, making it stronger and more assertive. With this year’s Anniversary we decided to look back at a wheat beer that we released a couple of Spring/Summers a few years ago: Stone Heat Seeking Wheat. While it was a plenty tasty beer, we ultimately decided that it wasn’t that reflective of what Stone was all about, and we unceremoniously dropped it from our lineup. For the Stone 9th Anniversary Ale, we carried some of the characteristics from the Stone Heat Seeking Wheat --- clear, not hazy; hoppy, not yeasty; combining a delicious hop bitterness and wheat tartness --- and made some…well…adjustments.

My wife pegged it: a strong cross between a banananosed hefe and a floral IPA. Good, but I actually would have liked to taste a version with a lower ABV. This would have made a great session ale. As is, though, a nice sipper.

Sampled at Mr Owenby’s halloween party. He liked it perhaps a geek in the making. The aroma is full of pine, bananas, lemons, and gensing. The flavor is more bent toward a pale ale than a hefe IMO. Some lemons and banana show up with a piney orange taste as well. I enjoyed it.

Well, this is one fine looking beer. Poured into my Konings Hoeven (LaTrappe) trappist glass, and it looks wonderful. The thin white head went away leaving a glassy copper body glowing underneath. The aroma is stoney. Stonish? Stone-like. Whatever, it tons of hops. It’s hard to get notes of the wheat, but its there. This beer has some life to it. Flavor is moving, I like this. Its got the initial robust wheat flavor then comes around with the sharp bit of bitterness, spice and some sweet wheat loving.

Over 18 months aged, beer dist has a slew of them....22 oz big bottle. A bright orange-amber color, thick sticky frothy inch of white foam. Clingy head. Grapefruit/citrus+ pine hop aroma. Bitter, not too sharp. Mucho hops + malt : good body, NOT the greatest that Stone has made...good mouthfeel. Glad I tried it; won’t have one too soon

(bottle) Orange gold, a bit hazy, with large fluffy cream head. Floral hops aroma. Flavor is floral/pine hops with some sweetness, yeast and fruit. The love child of an agressive imperial IPA and a wheat beer.

A hoppy but mellow aroma. A less than satisfying yellow color. This hits hard, its like an IPA mixed with a strong ale. Another solid Stone offering.

This beer has a huge hop nose, big malty flavor, and bitter finish. Tasted like a cross between an IPA and a Strong Ale. Quite good.

Thanks to johnny Flake for this bottle. Pours yellow/orange, with a white head. Aromas are hops, citrus (mostly orange), and malt. Flavors are citrus, pine, malt, and fruit.
