Commercial Description:
As has been a tradition, we have “Anniversary-ized” a recipe from our history by cranking it up, making it stronger and more assertive. With this year’s Anniversary we decided to look back at a wheat beer that we released a couple of Spring/Summers a few years ago: Stone Heat Seeking Wheat. While it was a plenty tasty beer, we ultimately decided that it wasn’t that reflective of what Stone was all about, and we unceremoniously dropped it from our lineup. For the Stone 9th Anniversary Ale, we carried some of the characteristics from the Stone Heat Seeking Wheat --- clear, not hazy; hoppy, not yeasty; combining a delicious hop bitterness and wheat tartness --- and made some…well…adjustments.

Pours dark yellow, orange tinted with a big white head, mostly lasting. Aroma is loaded with pine and citrus hops with earthy, musty notes.. The flavor is grapefruit and citrus, good amount of sweet maltiness. Finish is long bitter and dry. This is good stuff.

Pours a orangish amber color with a medium white head. Aroma of sweet heavy hops. Medium body with a long bitter finish that warms every so slightly. Great beer.

8-month re-rate -- This beer has aged very nicely. The aroma is a bit more pronounced and the hops aren’t as dominating as they were originally. A nice sweetness is now present that was lacking before. I’m not sure how much better this beer can get, drink it now.

Gold color with a good sized white head. Very little aroma, what there is if of pine. I’m not usually one who likes wheat beers (though in some senses this beer is almost a cross between a wheat beer and an IPA), yet as usual... Stone is able to pull off one that I like.

From tap at Stone Bistro. Pours hazy to cloudy yellow with a lacing white head. Mild fruity hops aroma. Flavour is grapefruity and smooth, not as sharp as this normally gets. Good balance to the malt too. Smooth and refreshing hoppy finish.

pours fairly thick light orange with a white head. fantastic floral citrus hop aroma with sweet roasted malt and wheat undertones. flavor sweet and hoppy. flavor reminiscent of a barleywine but the malt is softened by the wheat. body full but carbonation seems fairly fizzy especially on the finish making the beer seem a bit lighter. finish is sweet with a bit of tartness and alcohol. i really liked this one.

22 ounce bomber Nose of hops, citrus, and a little yeast; slighly hazy orange-amber color with a thick, heavy lacing, long-lasting yellowish head; flavor is nice spicy hop bitterness which evoloves into a long lasting hoppy bitter finish.

Poures a nice copper color with medium white head. Aroma is of malts, and citrus as well as some hops and some yeast. Flavor is citrus and some spices. Malts and a little hos round it out. Finishes bitter with some spiciness too. Alcohol is noticeable, but not overly so. A good brew.

22 oz bomber. Reading the commerical description, it seems like a great idea. However, there is something not quite right with this one. Up front, there are all the right hop aromas but something doesn’t meld perfectly with the flavors. It is still a good beer and I appreciate the creativity, but I wish it went together a bit better.
