Commercial Description:
As has been a tradition, we have “Anniversary-ized” a recipe from our history by cranking it up, making it stronger and more assertive. With this year’s Anniversary we decided to look back at a wheat beer that we released a couple of Spring/Summers a few years ago: Stone Heat Seeking Wheat. While it was a plenty tasty beer, we ultimately decided that it wasn’t that reflective of what Stone was all about, and we unceremoniously dropped it from our lineup. For the Stone 9th Anniversary Ale, we carried some of the characteristics from the Stone Heat Seeking Wheat --- clear, not hazy; hoppy, not yeasty; combining a delicious hop bitterness and wheat tartness --- and made some…well…adjustments.

Clear light amber body. Frothy off-whtie head; sticky lacing. Aroma has Flavor has some IPA caramelly malt, some bittering hop edge, sweet spicy yeast and flowers give it a very light belgian feel. Perfumed honey wheat sweetness. Very rounded, crisp, good beer.

(bottle - 22 oz) Clear gold color with white foam that begins at about an inch and goes down to a quarter inch and holds. Great glass lacing. Aroma has some sweet and malty notes with a touch of hops. Mostly sweet and caramel malts. Flavor is very sweet as well. Lots of sweetness and some hints of caramel, toffee and brown sugar. The finish is very sweet and thick with a bitter hop bite at the end. Very chewy.

Bottle. Golden amber color with large white foamy head. Floral hops with a bit of citrus yeastiness. Smooth yet very hoppy. Taste has some spice (corriander, pepper), with citrus hops in the finsh. Not a bad american strong or even IPA, but I’m hard pressed to find where the wheat beer characteristics are.

well. i like it a lot, but somehow it just ends up seeming kinda of run-of-the-mill. the aroma was pretty terrific. honestly, this seemed a lot like a dreadnaught without the punch. i guess the point is that it’s a pretty terrific beer, but i was hoping for more. for my money, i think i’ll stick with three floyds in this vein.

Lots of hops in this bad boy. Maybe there’s wheat in there but you can’t really taste/smell it underneath the hoppy bouquet. Lot’s of bitterness as with all of Stone’s brews. A smooth and undeniably clean finish.

22 oz bomber. Pours a golden color with a medium sized white head. Aroma is hoppy with piney overtones. Taste is slightly hoppy with hints of malt, pine cones and tangy wheat. Good, but not great.

Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a vibrant golden color with a huge amber-white head. The aroma was strong grapefruit and pine with a sweet and slightly spicy finish. The flavor was sweet, tangy, grapefruity and had a hint of spicy hops underneath. There was a mild hoppy finish.

Bomber from the Beer Yard. This one pours dark straw colored, with a three-finger off-white head, into my Stone Levitation Ale tulip. The aroma presents big resiny hops, florals, some grapefruity citrus, and some black pepper. The palate is fairly dense, similar to the IPA, with tastes of piney hops, grapefruit, some spicy esters, and some floral spices. Complex and unique.
