Commercial Description:
As has been a tradition, we have “Anniversary-ized” a recipe from our history by cranking it up, making it stronger and more assertive. With this year’s Anniversary we decided to look back at a wheat beer that we released a couple of Spring/Summers a few years ago: Stone Heat Seeking Wheat. While it was a plenty tasty beer, we ultimately decided that it wasn’t that reflective of what Stone was all about, and we unceremoniously dropped it from our lineup. For the Stone 9th Anniversary Ale, we carried some of the characteristics from the Stone Heat Seeking Wheat --- clear, not hazy; hoppy, not yeasty; combining a delicious hop bitterness and wheat tartness --- and made some…well…adjustments.

Bright honey tone with fine visible particulates, medium carbonation and a thick, foamy, collapsing white head. Aroma of papaya, lime, and butterscotch. Some wheat flavor but mostly hops with strong tropical fruit qualities, warm alcohol, and medium bitterness. Mouth-filling carbonation and somewhat syrupy feel. Decent, but nothing enthralling about this. I’d take a Gumballhead over this every day of the week.

Big fruity, piney hop aroma, lots of ester, and some sharp, burning alcohol. Looks great, clear orange-amber, dense white head. Flavor is dominated by fruity hops, there is a little malt sweetness to balance the strong hop bitterness, and there are some sharp higher alcohols. Medium body, some alcohol burn. Not a big fan - the wheat malt base doesn’t provide enough support for the high hop levels and it shows a lot of alcohol for 7.8%.

Pours a glowinly orange to light brown color. Hops and more hops in the aroma, consistanly pleasant. Has a dry crisp mouthfeel of a wheat. Contrasting flavors, leans to a IPA then wants to bolt to a barlywine slash hefe. Alcohol makes its presense known then dissipates. Carbination ends this beer with a boring aftertaste. A pleasant beer but either Stone was trying to hard or not hard enough.

Pour is deep golden yellow with some amber highlights and a nice dense pretty tan head...smells like a Stone beer...dry hoppy warmth...there is something else there that I can’t put my finger on though...light citrus notes...spiced lemon peel...taste is dry and alcoholic and hoppy...where’s the wheat?...dry and hoppy all the way through where a hint of sweetness comes out after all the hop nonsense...alcoholic sweetness...tastes like a Stone too...

Pours a cloudy orange with a thin dissapating head.Grains and malt shooting thru.Has nice flavor but the finish gets clumped up on the back of your throat, otherwise pretty damn good.

Peachy gold body, with some shading around edges. Head is small, white, building around edges, and is gone quickly. Smell is wonderful, but very much like every other Stone IPA, barleywine or strong ale, showing pineapple, sugary malt. Taste is very large, nice hoppy bite with sweet malt. Balanced very well, does not get cloying. After initial swell of flavor comes softer notes of pine tree, needles, peaches and apples. Aftertaste shows some anise and unpleasant medicinal qualities. Still, this beer is made with fine ingredients and methodology. Not a bad drink.

Lemon, resiny hops, wheat, fruits - strawberry & more. A bit of alcohol and spice too. Slightly cloudy gold with a craggy head. Resiny hops with odd corriander spicing. Medium/light toasted malt. Slightly astringent wheaty belgian w. American hop finish. Great heavy mouthfeel - not over carbonated. Interesting but I won’t get it again.

Clear copper with gold and orange sitting below a thick snow white head. Very distinct grapefruit hop aroma, quite strong and powerful hop profile. Fairly one dimensial. Tacky grapefruit and citrus hop character. There is a mild malt sweetness that comes up later and works well with the hip. Has a faint yeast character and a growing alcohol presence asn it warms. Nice beer but I’ve come to expect more from Stone.
