An easy going barley wine. Feels about 10% alcohol and hides it well. Tasty esters and dark fruits, peaches and berry inhibit the body.

Draft at stone. of all the epic beers on tap this night... this was my fav. pours reddish brown with no head. aroma is all bourbon and vanilla. mouthful was full on bourbon that gracefully faded to allow the great old guardian come through. the big bourbon note was amazing and delish...

On tap at Stone. 2006 vintage. Pours a burnt orange copper color with a disappearing head. I get lots of bourbon in the nose along with candy sweet malt, perhaps candy apples. Notes say, "Wow"! Flavor is straight bourbon up front followed by a nice super sweet fruitiness. Some hops do peak through on the backside, but are subdued, but there still is bitterness. Also, I get a little oak in the flavor as well. Full bodied and hot alcohol, but still pleasant. Lingering bourbon flavor. Damn fine nightcap.

RBSG ’08: Tap @ The Bistro. 2006 vintage for the Old Guardian. Poured a hazy copper color with a thin off-white head. Forward but smooth bourbon with notes of vanilla and brown sugar. Very nice. The flavor is of bourbon, wood and perfectly aged malt. Woody dry finish. Silky smooth mouthfeel with a full body. This was awesome stuff!

Draft – Frisco’s. Deeply hazed amber orange, thin creamy white head. Intense citric bourbon and oaked vanilla toffee aromas ride waves of boozy dark fruit from start to finish. Deep brown sugared hop flavors up front warm to a citric vanilla wood note at mid-ground. Rich rum raisin undercurrents blend effortlessly before the all mighty hops bring this beast back full circle. Thick bodied and smooth, soft carbonation, boozy, bittersweet finish. This was powerful in every sense of the word…and I loved every sip of it! This one needs a bottling one day…

On tap at Stone’s RBSG incredible luncheon. Cloudy orange amber color. Nice small bubble head. Medium carbonation. Malty sweet aroma. Mellow flavor. Sweet. Tiny bit of alcohol bite. Delicious.
