Vanilla and sweetness are the predominant flavors here. I thought it poured with a fairly vigorous head and a perfect appearance in my snifter. Very complex, similar to regular Double Bastard, but the barrel aging really does wonders for this one. Truly outstanding. badlizard (2380), Berkeley, California, USA

| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Dec 12, 2008 Draft @ Tria. This one is classic Double Bastard with just a little more. Aroma is more subdued on the hops, but loads of graham cracker, dark fruit, and candy abound in the nose. Flavor is sweeter than the standard version with lots of candy, graham cracker, vanilla/wood and a little booze. Perdy awesome. VikingHammer (363), Lynnfield, Massachusetts, USA

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Nov 20, 2008 Draft at Tria in Philly (2006 vintage): this was a special treat for me as I used to be a big fan of Arrogant Bastard but was not impressed with the regular Double Bastard. This aged brandy barrel version was excellent. Nice aroma, hop flavor with the brandy/wood to bring some balance to this, fairly full mouthfeel...an excellent brew. Mitch Steele from Stone was at this event and told me the brandy barrels for this were purchased for about $20 and lasted for only one batch. After they were used they fell apart, never to be used again.

Some fine bubble carbonation. Clear dark amber color. 1 finger head fades to a small ring around the edge of the glass. Buttery caramel sweetness. Great additional oak flavor. Double Bastard is one of my favorite beers. I have been collecting and aging these. I now have 04,05,06, and 07. Tasted with kp, eyedrinkale, oodeftone (on BA), and darkelf. gunhaver (1043), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 13, 2008 Growler from Stone Bistro. Pours a clear dark copper color, with a thick foamy white head, and creamy lacing. Aromas of delicious caramel and sweet chocolate, vanilla, and a slight but pleasant brandy touch. Flavor is very creamy. Caramel, apple, spices, velvety vanilla, and chocolate comes in nice in the finish. Delicious. Very smooth body, creamy, feels like a barley wine at times. Just great.
