Nov 25, 2009 Appearance: A rich golden color. 12-15 SRM, perhaps. Poured clear.
Smell: A bright hoppy nose.
Taste: This is where the ale shines. The Cali-Belgique features a nice balance of a sharp hoppiness and a belgian spiciness.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, smooth but with sharp initial hops
Drinkability: This is my first try at a California IPA/Belgian hybrid. And I liked it! I really enjoyed the belgain influence on the IPA-ness. You get some really nice hop notes but it’s not as heavy handed as a lot of IPA’s I’ve tried. I don’t know what the availability of this beer is but if you have a chance, it’s definitely worth a pint. Or two.

Nov 24, 2009 I was really excited about this one when I bought it, but was a little dissapointed. The yeast in the belgian white ale side of it conflicted with the hops of a traditional cali IPA and really didnt help each other. A very interesting idea from Stone, but not the peanut butter and chocolate combination they were hoping for.

Nov 24, 2009 Hazy golden (slight haze) with dense white head and visible carbonation. Citrus nose and hint of yeast. Pine citrus hop flavor, prickly on tongue, dry almost astringent finish. Earthy and grassy similar to farmhouse ale.

Nov 22, 2009 Bomber from Canals in Lawrenceville, NJ. Pours a rich hazy orange under a medium off-white rocky head. Thick curtains of lacing. Wonderfully fruity aroma with notes of citrus, bubblegum and pine. Initial flavors are banana and lightly toasted malt followed quickly by a healthy rush of Stone signature hops, caramel, milk chocolate and a hint of vanilla. Creamy mouthfeel and a long, fruity and mildly bitter finish. Another best in class brew from Greg and the Stone Brew Crew!

Nov 20, 2009 Tasty belgian nose, murky with a fairly large beige head--looks pretty much like a dark-ish IPA but with a mean head on it. At first it tastes more like a trippel than an IPA; it takes a minute for the hop character to settle into the palate, but once it does what materializes is a rowdy, delicious, and very well balanced beer. To me this particular hybridization of brews is so ridiculous, yet somehow it makes perfect sense. To say this is a "twin" of Stone IPA is very misleading; it is vastly different. Almost as good, more complex, and very well executed.

Nov 20, 2009 On tap from the brewery in Escondido. I love plain old Stone IPA, but I *really* enjoyed this Belgian-yeasted version. I am usually not a fan of traditional Belgian ales, but this hop-infused, bastardized Belgian was so pleasing and unique that I took home a growler full. It has since become one of my most desired regular drinkers. Now if they would just ship it to Houston somehow!

Nov 14, 2009 22 oz. bottle shared by Tmoney99. Pours a clear dark golden color with a medium frothy white head. The aroma quickly fills the nose with sweet tropical fruits, citrus, floral hints, caramel, and mild bready malts. The flavor shows all of the west coast notes one would expect: oranges, grapefruits, and light berries, bready malts, some caramel sweetness, and some mild spices. Medium bodied with a slightly slippery mouthfeel.
