Commercial Description:
When reading the name “Stone Cali-Belgique IPA”, “Cali” hints that it is a California style IPA, and this brew has an undeniable Belgian influence, indicated by the word “Belgique” (which is how Belgium’s French-speaking population says the word “Belgian”; the Dutch speaking Belgians say “Belgie”). We carefully selected a Belgian yeast strain that illuminates a fascinating new aspect of the beer that is otherwise quite simply Stone IPA.

The result is both completely new and different, while still being recognizable as a Stone Brew – and Stone IPA in particular. Think of it as an otherwise identical twin to Stone IPA that was raised in a Belgian culture. Literally.

Pours out clear golden with lots of foamy head. Taste is sweet and spicey with lots of hops. The Belgian yeast and malt gives it a different twist. Sweet and fruity with nice malty flavor. Crisp and clean finish. Great alternative to the regular IPA.

22oz bottle shared generously by footbalm. Pours a clear golden color with a nice foamy white head. The aroma is sweet; lots of hops, some Belgian yeast and malts. The flavor is more hoppy than anything else, which is of course fine with me. A lighter Belgian malt and yeast profile. Overall, a very nice beer.

Stone. Gotta love em. I mean, just one great beer after another. Deep gold color with a fluffy head. Citrus notes and a great hoppy bitterness. Overall very smooth. Nothing mind-blowing (for Stone), but this is a solid brew any way you slice it.

Gold pour with a huge, rocky, white head and lots of lacing. Nice citrus aroma balanced with bubblegum, yeast, banana, clove, honey, coriander, pepper and bread. Lots of bright citrus and belgian ester flavors with some peppery phenols and a sweet honey biscuit malt background. Sticky, medium-ful body with soft carbonation.

Bottle. Pours a clear golden amber with a thick white head. Somewhat complex nose comprised of pine, citrus, toast, malt. Light sweetness, malty with a nice caramel note. Big grapefruit bitterness. Pretty good, and better than I had anticipated.

On tap at the bistro/brewery in Escondido. Pours a clear, bright orange body with a very dense, creamy and foamy, finger-width, white head that never completely dissipates and leaves a lot of sticky lacing. Aroma of bright and fresh floral hops as well as a dense, earthy pine. Lots of citrus and fruits from the Belgian yeast strain. Some light caramels as well as a bit of pepper. Smells and tastes just like their IPA with a Belgian yeast strain (obviously). The flavor is pretty damn good. The Belgian yeast adds a nice complexity that isn’t found in the IPA. Still has lots of floral and earthy bitterness, but more sweet and smooth fruits. Basically perfect balance. Finishes very dry with a fruity and long earthy lingering taste. Palate is medium bodied, but very easy drinking for such a flavorful beer. Overall, wonderful. Possibly the best Beglian IPA I’ve had. A great variation on their already amazing IPA.

Golden color with a big beige head. Aroma of piney hops, yeast and spices. Flavor of pine and grapefruit hops and some spices. Finish is pretty bitter and hoppy. Good.
